Locking doors with Engine running

Not sure about changing the keyhole cover, but I would really advise against leaving your car unattended with the engine running. You are very likely not insured in the event your car is taken with the keys left in it. It would only take the work of seconds for someone to break the window and let th...

Re: Windscreen advice

I don't want to scaremonger, but some years ago I put a load of scratches in my Audis windscreen with an ice scraper that had a notch in it due to being dropped. My insurance company (Swinton) would not cover it as it wasn't a crack/chip, I lived with it for a couple of months before chopping it in....

Re: Car change

I went from a Scirocco GT TDi to a Golf GTi a year ago. Did I make a good choice? I'm not sure, I now only do 6k miles a year (which is why I went for the GTi) but I still feel like I'm putting a lot of fuel in it. But this is something you might be used to anyway. I certainly find the Golf more pra...

Re: MFD showing error start stop - advice please

I had something similar just last month. (although no engine light, just start stop error) After a week at the dealers and the cause and rectification were quite inconclusive. They eventually just cleaned up the 2 Camshaft sensors and the fault went away.

Need a Health Check Before 2000 mile trip to Europe

Also, if travelling through France it's worth making sure any speed cam POIs are turned off in your SatNav. It depends whether you are going to France, how often and if you plan to use Autoroutes. I would recommend getting an automatic toll payer. It's great for beating the queues especially now mos...

Re: Cigarette lighter power after ignition off

I've seen a thread over on the Mk7 Golf forum (where I live now since getting my GTI) which might help with making the sockets permanently live: http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5149" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's basically moving the fuse to another slot...

Re: Another one going...

Well that's it, the Sciroccos gone. Very sad to see it go, more than I thought I would be actually.

But on the plus side, very very pleased with my GTi, but I'm going to have to change the windscreen wipers, they seem to be worse than the Scirocco OEMs.

External temperature sensor? (Although this is based on a similar thing I had about 10 years ago with a Golf!)

Re: Another one going...

"MartyGolfo", hadn't though about that, doesn't have the same ring does it? I'm inordinately excited about going back to a petrol engine. I work from home now, so fuel cost/efficiency isn't really an issue anymore. Has anyone compared the size of the Pano roof between the Scirocco and Golf...

Another one going...

So, after a great deal of thought, I've decided to change my Scirocco. It's been a truly great car, I've had no complaints but I fancy the change. So with a massive amount of excitement I've ordered a Golf Mk7 GTi. This forum has been a mine of information, can't quite believe I'm moving on! One las...

2.0 Tdi vs 2.0 Petrol

Thanks for this, it's what I thought but it's great to have some consensus. On the purchase price, I've been using the ipad vw configuration app, and the base cost of a 2.0 Tdi DSG is £27,190, whereas the base cost of a 2.0 Tsi DSG is £28,169. So it seems like £diesel < £petrol is not as clear cut n...

2.0 Tdi vs 2.0 Petrol

Afternoon all, I'm due to change my Scirocco in around 6 months and in the years since buying my current car I've changed my job. I now work from home 9 days out of 10 so do very few miles. Setting aside the options to keep the car or buy another second hand, would I be out of pocket much either way...

Trips in the Roc planned this year? Best places you've been

We drove down to the South of France last year, and the car behaved impeccably. I found it far more comfortable than the Audi A3 we used the time before. On the way back we stopped in Annecy, Colmar and Bruge for a night each then on to the Zebrugge/Hull ferry. Although this gave us the opportunity ...

Re: SatNav and Phone Holder

Hi ChrisL I use the Brodit vent mount for my TomTom unit and I think its great. It's maybe not the most attractive when the device isn't mounted, but you get used to it. It's rock solid and makes whatever you mount easily reachable. It certainly made navigating around Europe less stressful last summ...

Re: Phone cradles

I've just added a Brodit centre mount from DSL Developments http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/fitting_Instructions/Proclip.asp?Brodit=653882&Make=Volkswagen&Model=Scirocco for my SatNav as I find the window mounts place it too far away to reach comfortably. It took a little while to arri...

Re: Spare Bulb Kit

Ah, thanks for that. So looking at the bulb specs I think I'm ok with the kit I already have. I'm trying to save money where I can, I'm finding the costs of this motoring jaunt rapidly mounting up! Who wants to talk about European insurance cover? I forgot about that when renewing last time didn't I...
