Drivers B Pillar Rattle

Post by nozydog »

Anyone experiencing a rather irritating buzz/rattle from just behind their right ear. It isn't there all the time, just on certain road surfaces! It stops if I press firmly against the plastic trim box section covering the upper B pillar. Anyone give me advice on how to remove this trim section so I can maybe felt/gaffa the clips before refitting... or any other advice!? Thanks

You won't like this but due the interior side panels interlocking, to remove with minimal risk of cracking the plastics, the whole rear right side set of panels come off. This will give you access to the 2 Torx bolts hidden at the lower joint line of the upper B pillar panel.

I'd try pin the point exactly and address it with some thin sticky felt or a small cut pad from a Velcro hoop pad to stop the movement if possible. There's only the top of the seat belt hanger behind there.

You end up like this (but opposite hand) to get at the two lower Torx Bolts holding the B pillar.
Capture.JPG
Order:
- Remove rear bench seat
(Keep the rear seat vertical to prevent possible damage to the seat trim.)
– Remove right short parcel shelf support for luggage compartment cover. ( 3 Torx Bolts [Torque: 1.5Nm])
– Remove roof end strip at the rear end of the large roof trim panel. Pops out.
– Remove C-pillar trim round the rear window rear side.
...(1 Torx Bolt behind the Airbag emblem plastic plug [Torque: 1.5Nm], then pops off some plastic peg/body holes)
– Remove side panel trim by the rear right panel (1 Torx Bolt 3.5Nm plus plastic pegging)
– Remove 2 Torx bolts at the bottom of the upper B pillar trim (4.5Nm).
– Pull out the upper B pillar trim from under moulded headliner interlock point.

Thanks very much for that.... Will try more padding and if that doesn't do it I will mention it to the dealer when I go in for service as it's a new car under warranty! They can do all the hard work!

I stripped my panel down and found that my seatbelt mechanism is the issue, what's the fix?

Internally or knocking against part of the bodywork?

Its the actual mechanism internally, if you tap it, it rattles.

Given the safety issue, I'd be replacing it as rattles internally. Suggests something is broken.

Either warranty replacement or one from a donnor car.
