Re: Back in a VW. A Tiguan this time
Yep i like this forum too - i've got a golf mk6 1.4 tsi but this forum is much better than the US run golfmk6.com, and nearly every thing is relevant to the golf as a scirocco is a golf mk6 with a different shell and a wider track.

Re: Goodbye Viper Green & Hello Black Editions.
It's definitely a marmite - in the right light and conditions it can look striking and nice...but in general, for me it looks garish (yes - i hate marmite) .....but that maybe just because i'm getting old lol

Re: Defect Brake Servo
Well sometimes its just the simple things! - typical of VW to throw errors saying the world is ending, when all it needed was a bit of brake fluid.

Re: Fallen out of love, then back in love
Well glad you kept your roc! The 1.4 tsi 160 can be a pain - but once sorted out it is a good engine with plenty of torque...and great fuel efficiency considering its a 160HP petrol. I'm betting that it wasn't actually your chain tensioner that was failing, but the camshaft adjuster (and they more t...

Re: Defect Brake Servo
Well no vacuum leaks then... There is a thread here about the error (although as previiously indicatd this only relates to startup) http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f112/brake-servo-defect-38782.html As per the late and great RW1's recommendations: 1) This indication should only be ignored if ...

Re: How good are VW mechanics?
Ah, the old 'there's nothing wrong with it sir, we couldn't find any fault', that would be £70 please. If you're paying £70 - tell them you want them to drive the car for an hour in various conditions, not a 2 minute trip down the road and back. As for the original question 'How good are VW mechanic...

Re: Defect Brake Servo
Mine happened pretty occasionally during when I drive. It happens when I'm in low rev or while low rev changing to next lower gear, but will disappear if I tap or step on the brakes during traffic jam. Some told me to try topping up me brake fluid but haven't yet had the time to try it. Does your e...

Re: Defect Brake Servo
Same thing happened to me and it turned out to be loose wiring with the oxygen sensor at the exhaust. That doesn't make any sense - no way an oxygen sensor would be putting out Defect Brake Servo errors, one system has nothing to do with the other! Not that i'm saying that's not what you been told ...

Re: quick question?
When air con is enabled it also dries the air hence why it steams up less with the aircon switched on. That is why when you select demist it switches on the aircon. Any moisture taken out the cabin by the drier is dumped on the ground, clearly seen in summer by the puddle under the car. However, ai...

Re: quick question?
Common issue, with many cars but especially VW cars based on the golf mk6 platform... The problem is once you start using aircon, the car will mist a hell of a lot when you stop using it (making you use it more and you end up in a viscious cycle). When you switch the aircon off after some use, there...

Re: Defect Brake Servo
This is a common problem - happens during start up when the vacuum pressure is low and the ecu intermittently reports this fault and then it clears almost as fast as it reports it. If it happens only on start up and then clears straight away I would not worry about it. I believe there was a software...

Re: Any Design Differences Between the 1.4 122 and 160?
The piston part numbers are actually different for the CAXA engine (122ps), they also come in two slightly different sizes for some reason too (according to ETKA). Early 2009 models on the 160 CAVD engine did have piston ring problems which caused further premature failure - this was fixed later in ...

As above remove drivers side wheel and arch liner, you should be able to reach the cable from there.

Re: Scirocco Advice EML Light Manifold issue updated
Damn, that is exactly what i was fearing :( - sorry to hear that. I didn't want to say a piston is probably shot, putting fear into you, until you had a compression test done. A compression test would have picked up a piston problem straight away - it's one of the first things the garage should have...

The 160 twincharged has 2 Red letters on the boot badge (SI in TSI), where the 122 only has 1 red letter (I)

Re: Sounds like a tractor on start up?
There is no secondary air injection system on this engine, other than high idle for 30 seconds or so, this differs from the temperature related quirk of very rough idle for 30 seconds However, I have noticed that during summer it always enters the 30 second cold start sequence and during winter it d...

Re: Sounds like a tractor on start up?
I tried that - made no real difference, it stopped it doing it for a day or 2 but then it started sticking frequently again. It was RW1 who came up with the idea, you can see his original post here: http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=11007 I believe that the oil flush an...

Re: 1.4 tsi 160 help needed please.
Goes to show what the tech's know - my experience of multiple 'master' technicians at a VW dealership is they know jack. They are good at following the VW workshop guides, but can only diagnose a fault by what a technical bulletin might say - even then they miss half the bulletins as don't search th...

Re: 1.4 tsi 160 help needed please.
One other thing - do check with VW to make sure they didn't replace the camshaft adjuster when they did the chain & tensioner, you just want to make sure before delving into this job.
