I know this has been discussed many times before but I cant seem to find the answer to this specific question.
I have seen a few cars (Scirocco's too) with number plates that are just 5 numbers (23223 was one I saw) and they always seem to be silver numbers on a black plate.
I was just wondering what type of plate this was?

Re: Black Number Plates
Registered in the Channel Islands. Black number plates are illegal in mainland UK unless you are driving a very old car that was originally issued with them. I had them on the first car I bought in 1973.
Ahh, the knowledge you gain with old age.

Ah right ok! So the cars I am seeing with those plates are channel islands registered but modern ones still shouldn't have the black plates?

Re: Black Number Plates
Ok that clears things up. It was just after I saw quite a few around and especially some modern scirocco's with them that it was something which was legal. Clearly not.
Thanks to all for clearing that up for me.
