DSG Downshifts when coming to stop etc

What's your DSG like when you pull up at lights etc ?, I.e does it seem to try to pull you along giving the impression that braking is being made to work harder ?, it's hard to explain but it seems to pull at you a little on the down shifts ?, i know it's different to manual as all I used to do mostly was coast to the lights and the DSG obviously doesn't do this and uses the engine to brake for you

If i understand what you are getting at the DSG will always 'pull' even when stationary and in 'D'.

If you let your foot off the break it would crawl at about 5mph (ideal for heavy traffic).

I just knock it into neutral as I have always been conscious of that pulling effect on the brakes, but i would imagine its not detrimental to the vehicle otherwise it wouldnt be programmed to do that.

That 'pulling' is also the same thing as hill hold - only when your on a hill the resulting force keeps you stationary when you take your foot off the brake pedal.

Not quite what i mean, what i am trying to say is when i have been in say 6th gear and start to slow down for a set of lights etc the cars engine seems to do the braking for me more than i want it too ?, perhaps im a bit heavy on the brakes ? but it seem to tug at me a bit ?, i guess i am a bit paranoid about mechtronics issues the the DSG can have

I get that too. Especially in the change down to 2nd. If you're not on the power but just gently on the brakes wanting to sort of roll up to the end of the line it tends to shift down to 2nd quite early and makes the car slow up quite abruptly. I still haven't worked out the best way to get round it. You have to brake to tell people behind that you're slowing but equally you want some speed on to keep moving up to the end of the line or run up with the car in front.

Yeh that's it exactly, it sorts of feels it's tugging you along a bit sometimes too, feels like it's requiring more brake pressure, this is perhaps in my head though

I have something similar on the 7 speed and was a bit unnerving at first. If you think about it, in a manual car you would be dipping the clutch the last few metres and be on brakes only but the DSG on mine does not disengage the clutches until the Scirocco is stationary. So it gives the effect of driving the car and you feel you the need to apply more brake pedal pressure. You get use to it and just apply the brakes accordingly. Let the car's gearbox do the rest. ie in-gear braking.

It releases the clutches as it sees the Scirocco is stationary and sees applied brake pedal pressure. It will only re-engage the clutches if the brake pedal is released. Thats why you can sit in D or S at the lights with your foot on the brakes.

Thats quite clever really I alsways wondered what they did when you stopped as I know torque converters never drop out of gear unless you actualy take it out of gear. Im a bus driver and all our buses are fully autos with torque converter 'boxes and braking can be reather interesting but they dont do what you describe, well unless the 'box is knackered ( Most of the are ) but then they all have an electromagnetic brake in the gearbox to assist braking. But id like to have a proper go in a DSG Roc and seriously contemplating replacing my manual for one.
