I am still trying to get dealer to switch off the auto headlight setting that has the headlights on permanently- the handbook says you can switch it off in some countries but the proceedure mentioned doesn't seem to work. Don't get me wrong I like headlights but would like to be in control of them. The dealer says they can't switch them off as they are a safety issue.
Does anyone know how to turn them off. Selecting sidelights still leaves the rear lights, side lights and instrument panel lights on

the headlights being on are daytime running lights, as you can not turn it off via the indicator method outlined in the manual I'm guessing your car is post week 45 2009 (MY2010.5) so see the following links as this has been discussed numerous times before.

& yes the dealers won't turn them off as they don't want to be told off even though the applicalbe legislation has not come into affect yet & only applies to cars manufactuered after the date but ho hum, a dealer that will is rarer than rocking horse sh*t

Re: Auto Headlights
make sure the light switch is in the 0 position when you attempt the indicator method

my apologies the penny just dropped, you don't have xenons do you? you will need vagcom to turn the drl's off as your car is MY2009. (see roccopedia for instructions)
the indicator method only works 'straight out of the box' for MY2009 with xenons & My2010 pre week 45 (xenon & halogen)
