RNS 510 reboot

Post by skippy »

Hello All,

Driving along quite happily on Sat, my RNS 510 unit decided to 'reboot' itself all of a sudden. I was listening to music via the iPod and the Nav was running as well, screen blanked out and next thing it powered itself back on again.

Anyone else had this? Once running again it seemed fine, but in the 15 months or so of ownership, never had that!

Yes I had that a few times when brand new in May 2010 but since then it hasn't happened to me.

Had mine come up with "System Starting" or similar when pressing the Media button, this was well into a journey. Also had it do funny thing with the iPod where it basically decided it was no longer there so had to unplug it then plug it back it.

Also had a funny with bluetooth phone the other day, had the phone paired as normal, phone rang, answered it via the screen thing but no sound from the speakers. Apparently the guy on the other end could hear me saying hello but I could hear nothing. Switched everything off then back on - all working fine.

All in all I'm convinced there is some gremlin in there somewhere but I'd put money on it working perfectly if I took it back to the dealers.

Thanks guys, yes - , I have had the issue where it does not recognise the iPod, so have had to disconnect/reconnect again, but first time for the 'reboot' of the system. It is slightly un-nerving when you are driving along as when the music cuts you think there is a major mulfunction!

I looked into whether a Firmware upgrade may help but got totally confused with all the version number etc and gave up :faint:
