Flap on R back box ?
I was just nosing around the car today and looked at the exhaust back box, I noticed a motor attached to it and a rod ( the left exhaust end tailpipe on the scirocco) , a rod runs into the exhaust end pipe ?, I'm assuming this is like the flap on the R32 ?, question what does it actually do ?, reduce noise at lower revs, or help with back pressure etc ?

Re: Flap on R back box ?
oh yeah never noticed that before!
I think it must the "tuned noise" system they originally mentioned.
also there's 2 pipes going into the RH exit, and just one into the LH side one with the motor flap attached.

I have a question about the exhaust on the r. Why did they only use 2 tubes on one side and only 1 on the other

Re: Flap on R back box ?
Its not a motor, but a vacuum operated valve.
Had a wee play with it tonight, just a flap that shuts off the pipe at that side. Not entirely sure why its there, its open at idle.

i'd say the RH side exit is operational at all times...while the other side is open at certain times. Does that make a change in exhaust note? Dunno.

That gotta look stupid in the winter when your sitting a traffic and smoke is only coming out of 1 tail pipe.
Or is it something to do with not covering people walking down the path with exhaust fumes? Which in that case its rather cleaver.
