To Viper or Not?
Hi guys, am new to the forum, just joined last night.
Am currently driving a 2.0 tfsi tt mk2 which ive had for the last 20 months. Its now reaching the heady heights of 75K and am in the market for a new motor. Its probably a good point to drop in that this will be a company car and therefore there are budget restrictions to bear in mind.
Ive obviously come across the scirocco in the past few months and, having had a good look at the various models/trim combinations and have pretty much decided on one of the following:
1: Candy White with Truffle Leather, heated. Dynaudio & Folding Mirrors
or
2: Viper Green with Cloth. Xenons, Dynaudio, DAB, Folding Mirrors & Electric Drivers Seat.
Cant make my mind up at all - pros and cons for both are
the white one - white is a current colour and would seem to be one of the more popular choices for the car - someone mentioned on another thread that white/truffle is the model shown in the brochure which could indicate the VW opinion on the best colourscheme etc for the car.
bad bit is the cost of the leather - a bag an a half aint cheap!
the green one
good bits - the colour
bad bits - the colour
i jus cant make up ma mind bout the green - in some of the photos ive seen it kinda reminds me of that green that the new beetles came in for a while but in others (mainly corporate vw shots) it looks immense, much more like the IROC concept colour.
I guess that am just looking for any advice, thoughts, pics, anything really that might help my final decision, which needs to be made pronto!
Who has what options so far? which would you take again and why and which would you ditch?!?
thanks in advance for your help/advice fellow potential roccers!!!
cheers
JayR

Re: To Viper or Not?
Welcome to the forum.
I think the viper will be a real headturner but IMO will be one of those colours that will be to garish for a lot of people. If it is a colour you like then go for it, but don't expect a quick delivery if you want the xenons. In fact I believe you can't order them now.
White looks great on the car but the truffle is not to my taste.
If I were to spec another it would include
Leather, DSG, Dynaudio, Parking sensors, Winter Pack, Nav.

The heated seats come for free with the leather,in case you didn't spot that, as does the electric lumbar support.

My spec is similar to iroc's.
Black, DGS, Pan Roof, Sat-Nav, Leather, Winter pack, Folding mirrors, Parking sensors, and cruise.
Only thing I would not have gone for again is the optional 6 CD changer.
You lose the MDI since it goes in the armrest, and I would have preferred that.
I was also going to go for electric driver's seat, but since I could have the car sooner if I didn’t, it really didn't make much difference as it is far from essential, and saved me a couple of hundred pounds.
I like the White, but I wouldn’t go with the Truffle leather, as I think black would look far better in a white car, but that's just my opinion.
As for going for Green, it certainly will get more attention, even more then the car gets as it is, but whether I would want that attention is another matter...
It is a very cool colour though!
As already mentioned the Xenon’s could mean you waiting for you car longer then you might like.

robrob, re the 6cd it's an easy swap I believe, it uses the same loom as the MDI.

So you mean it Should be easy for them to remove it?
Would the changer fit other VW's? Could I sell it?
Or would I get so little for it I am better off keeping it, and putting it back when I sell the car?

Re: To Viper or Not?
The changer fits the Golf, Jetta, Passat.
Wouldn't be worth taking it out IMO

Re: To Viper or Not?
If I was in your position I would take out the 6CD and put in the MDI ASAP unless the MDI unit costs an arm and a leg. I would just keep the changer spare if it only sells for pennies on ebay. Ever since I got my new iPod for the car, it's all thats ever played, got about 5000 tracks on it, no need to burn cds etc just endless music
Put a 16GB iPod Nano on your xmas list, make it the Black one so it goes with the car!

Re: To Viper or Not?
I'd take the white one.
Although you say the leather is pricey, the xenons, electric seat and DAB are not far off the same price. So, how often do you drive on unlit B-roads, need to adjust the seat or get DAB radio stations?
Besides which you can't order Xenons at the moment and VW have taken them off the web site configurator.
My dealer is getting a viper green in the next few months and I'm dying to go and look at it but I think it's a love/hate colour.

Re: To Viper or Not?
cheers for the replys guys - i dunno, am kinda going towards the white now - i reckon it ll be a safer bet.
my tt is currently running stage 1 ecu and catback milltek exhaust (circa 245bhp)
whos heard of any current modifications that are available?
i saw springs on another thread that really seemed quite a good option as it would keep the magride ok....
whos got what mods? any tuners to recommend?
hmm....decisions, decisions eh!

Re: To Viper or Not?
Thanks iroc.
I had a look at that, but would you mind explaining to me in simple words what changing it would involve? What would I actually have to buy, and would VW do it for me without charging a small fortune? (I'm not technical enough to be able to do it myself)
Sorry jayR, don't mean to highjack your thread...

Re: To Viper or Not?
I understand it's a matter of buying the insert with the MDI socket in. Take out the cd changer and blank insert. Connector from cd plugs onto MDI.
Don't know how much the bits are but I am sure andy-gti could get you the part #. As for fitting by VW.

Re: To Viper or Not?
Again musts are a matter of personal preference. If you like your music go for DynAudio, Guys that have the folding mirrors think they are worth the money. Winter Pack Gives you Heated Mirror's,Heated washer Jets,Headlamp Wash. Heated seats come with the Leather.
Pereonally I think the Pano roof on the white looks cool, but that's not a must have.
As for the interior, again matter of personal preference but I think the black looks better with the Candy.
Lead times shouldn't be to bad, but saying that a couple are struggling to get build weeks. I know there have been a few whites available in dealer stock.

Re: To Viper or Not?
I think the only thing that really is essential in this car are the parking sensors (bit then others may not thing so) and as for everything else, it’s a matter of how much you want to spend and what matters to you, very simple.JayR wrote:options?

black or truffle?
One person values leather over sat-nav while another couldn’t care less about leather and prefers spending the money on Sat-nav.
This might not help much, but is true.
As for Truffle or black, it is once again a very individual thing.
I loved the way the truffle looked in the brochure but then wasn’t crazy about it when I saw “real” pictures.
Then again, it probably is a little more special then black…
From a colour combination point of view though, I think the Candy white would look so much better with the black leather.
Re: To Viper or Not?
vw presents scirocco in white because if the car was presented in green only young people would like it...white is more neutral and more acceptable!I think that scirocco is a curvy car and needs a colour to show(?) the curves!I don't mean the white is ugly,is very beautiful! But pal,see what colour makes better emotions to you and choose... see this http://www.drivers-republic.com/dr_tv/i ... rea=videos i think the colour is very close to iroc's colour
i took the risk and i ordered it and i think i will not change opinion!I loooove it!!
