I knew from the yearly checkup that they told me that the DSG box was sweating a little bit. My mechanic told me he looked at it and fixed it when doing preventive repairs to the chain and tensioners.
Anyone got an idea where this sweat is coming from? Is it the DSG (DSG flush has been done like 15k - 20k km before at the vw dealer). I never saw any pools or drips on the floor btw.

Can this be the Rear Main Seal that is leaking (RMS)? It's especially this black ring that seems to be oily

I don't notice anything until I looked underneath earlier today. No rough idle, no performance dip, no codes, no misfires, etc

The car itself is a 2009 2.0 TSI DSG

Im 80% sure that its the RMS, I have the same. I think mine is worse than yours as min needs oil on the floor and I keep having to top up the oil.

Unfortunately, its a gearbox out job, the actual RMS is about 70quid but you will spend on labour getting to it.

Yeah, I looked it up it's about an 8-hour labor job sadly. (Humblemechanic youtube)
How does your looks like? Do you mind trying to record it like I did so we can compare?

How much mileage do you have on your car? I got 82k km (like maybe 65k miles?).
Are there actually any things that can go bad with this leak? I mean if it's only topping off the oil I can wait a little bit before fixing it (empty pockets rn ;) )

Mine has defintely got works, a Litre of oil every 3 weeks or so. mine on 92k. Yes with this leak, you could run out of oil, which means new engine so I wouldnt leave it too long or at leave keep checking the oil level and have a spare 5 litres in the boot at all times just in case.

This is a good as time as any to do everything in that area, Clutch,Gearbox rebuild, Differential install etc while its all apart.
