Looking at a pre-facelift Scirocco R tomorrow

Post by EnthusiastOwned »

After 9 years of wanting one, I'm finally serious about getting an R. I've driven loads over the years for PCP/Lease test drive purposes, but I never went through with it.

I was actually in the market for a fast estate (R36, S4), or even an MK5 R32/Edition 30. After months of searching, I've realised that R36 estates just don't come up for sale, and the ones that do are high mileage and/or fucked - and always overpriced. S4's are very hard to find the right spec/condition/mileage/price combo and they terrify me with the potential maintenance bills. MK5's are just a bit too old for my requirements. The MK6 Edition 35 ticks the boxes but for some reason, I'm not that interested about them.

At the same time, I've been watching Scirocco R's and the prices seem to be fluctuating which suggests the pre-facelift prices are starting to bottom out so now's a good time to buy.

I've found a Rising Blue, low milage example close to me in Yorkshire. It's not got all the options I want, but I can retrofit the important ones in my own time.

Wish me luck!

For what it's worth I went to veiw the R and it had been in a bash, the rear quarter had seen a poor repair.

The search continues.
