I'm 600 miles in to running in a TDI 184/DSG.
I'm currently disappointed over how flat the engine feels. Most times I accelerate in higer gears, instead of pulling torque it just snatches a lower gear (sometimes 2).
The MPG has improved slightly over the last 100 miles, but has been around 42mpg on a run, which I consider poor for low reving running in driving. I'm hoping the engine will improve with more miles, but I've owned numerous other diesels over the years (Honda/BMW) and they all perfomed well and delivered good MPG from the start.

I don't think you will get it over 55 mpg, this is normal for this engine.
But i agree this is not as good as the older 1.9 tdi engines.
You can also do a dsg remap and possible disableing the downshift if you want.

Unfortunately it's leased so I can't mess with it. Having just come from a 320bhp 335d that could average 46mpg and get over 50 on a run, I can accept the drop in performance but I'm a little disheartened at the low MPG expectation. "Time will tell"
I'm also bemused by having to pay for someone to enable the digital MPH on the display?

I think a lot of it it is to do with EU6 compliance.
I have a 170 Tdi and easily average 55mpg and struggle to get it to go below 50mpg. These figures are actual fill to fill and not MFD displayed values. Those are nearer 60mpg.
It will improve as tbe engine loosens up with some miles on it. VW engines are pretty tight when new.

Sorry i used us mpg converter lol
55 mpg is also what i normally reach on average.
A little bit depending on the season also. (51-55)
A lot of thing can be changed on the car with vcds, its a good investment.

I might get 40mpg if I drive off a cliff
I'm averaging 27.5mpg at the moment and the car has 5000 miles on it so I don't know if it will improve or not but I didn't buy it for the mpg
