vcds / vagcom £30?

Post by robinalex »

Never looked into vagcom / vcds before but I know there is a lot you can do if you have the gear such as checking for faults, altering settings etc but are any of these sub £30 cables and disc deals on ebay actually worth the money and can they do the anything near the same thing as the highly recommended Rosstech stuff that costs hundreds?

The stuff you see at that price is ripped off software, and cheap hardware. Anything labelled as VagCom is very old (or misleading) as that particular program was discontinued some 8 - 10 years ago and wouldn't work on your car anyway. VCDS is the only product for you. How you go about getting it is up to you, but people who pay for the genuine product virtually never have any issues with either software or hardware, which stolen stuff invariably gives problems. Also, try getting assistance for a clone product, and usually you'll find it's not forthcoming.

£30 for a clone deal, or £260 for the real deal which you can sell next year (or whenever) for hardly any financial loss at all. Second hand the cables sell for well over £200, and you're supporting the manufacturer, not the thieves.

Ok Viking, well said, I will avoid the rip off ones but dont think its worth my buying the proper stuff just to have a play with a few things, might try and get to a meet and have a chat with a few members who have and use VCDS

What he said basically lol.
Plus if you bought the cheap fake copy and it caused problems to your car how fucked off would you be.

Also the fakes are limited to the software that it comes with. No updates or support. Real deal comes with both. I bought a 2nd hand cable and have used it a few times to do tweaks . Personally I wouldn't even consider the fake.
