Hi, I own a 2012 Scirocco 140 TDI bluemotion. Ive just got it back from having the dualmass flywheel repaired (under warranty thankfully!)
However, I now have a rumble..... at first I thought my front wheels were out of balance, but after a re balance, the issue is still there.
Im Going with wheel bearing... Now Im gonna try and blag this under warranty, but Im not sure if this is covered, may possibly be a consumable, and 49k of 19" wheels has probably took its toll...
Ive had a look at the parts, amd notice there is a 3 bolt and a 4 bolt item?
Anyone know what one I need?
4 bolt:

3 Bolt:

Anyone know which one I need?
Also, how long labour would I expect to pay on a wheel bearing?
Thanks

Re: Front wheel bearing- 3 or 4 Bolt?
I would check your tyres first. The Scirocco, like a lot of VAG cars, suffers from abnormal tyre wear on the rear tyres. Sawtooth or tread stepping give the exact same droning / rumbling noise that you get from a wheel bearings failing.
If you're sure it's the front there is the possibility the tyres have been rotated.
19" wheels will have no impact on wheel bearing wear, unless they are a stupid offset or set at a stupid camber.

Re: Front wheel bearing- 3 or 4 Bolt?
Come to think of it, i only noticed this when I got it back from having the dual mass flywheel changed. And I noticed the front left and front right wheel are on opposite sides (tyre direction is fine) i only noticed cause my left wheel had a kurb mark, now its on the right.
I though big wheels hurt wheel bearings? I had 19s on a Clio and it ATE wheel bearings !

I would swap them round first and see if that helps.
Whether you have 17", 18" or 19" wheels the rolling radius remains similar due the corresponding profile and width of the tyre. Also VW fit 19" atdetrimentalry and they wouldn't do that if there was a detrimental effect on wheel bearing.

Just swapped them round at 1130pm in the dark, lo and behold the problem has gone!!
Brilliant! Thank you so much!
Now for a shower!

Glad that was the problem and it was easily resolved without any expense
