Water leaking?

Post by JohnsonAsco »

I just noticed this evening when parked up with the car running speaking to somebody water leaking from underneath and first I didn't think it was mine but I moved the car and it made another damp patch, it seems to be coming from say between the middle of the seats but obviously from underneath the car on the outside, it's going in for a service tomorrow so I'll mention it to the garage I'm going. But just wondering if anybody has a heads up of what it is? Not coming from the engine, all fluids ok with no loss, temp same as usual. Just leaks when car is running don't think it does when not on. Cheers. Pat

Did you have your air con on? Had this in other cars when I've had it on for a bit and some condensate drips out when stopped.

Yeah mate I have my air con on near enough all the time just so it's running. Is that what it is then?

Not 100% and someone may correct me but I think it is from a drain from the a/c unit. The evaporator or condenser makes water when cooling the air and then dumps it when stopped. Happens all the time in the hi luxs I drive at work.

It will nearly certainly be the air con. Should be good clean water as everything else in your car will have something added ie coolant, screen wash etc.

If its dripping outside of the car from underneath then that shouldnt be a problem, all cars do that when leave it running with the aircond on.
Its only a problem if the water drips from the inside and wets your interiors, floor mats etc.
I had that problem just about 2 weeks in after purchasing the car, the drain tip wasnt pointing out as it shud've been which totally wet my car on the inside, brought it back to the dealer and had them fixed it, as the wet also screwed my airbag ecu.
I'm guessing it was a faulty from the factory or it was just fine when they inspected it.
