I drive a: Scirocco R
In: Rising Blue
With a: DSG box
Options: Fully loaded including Recaro seats
20" Cades Shift alloys with 245/30/20 Michelin Cup Sport 2 tyres
VWR Tracksport Coilovers, anti lift, wishbones and engine/gearbox mounts
Turbo back BCS Sports Powervalve exhaust with race cat & wrapped downpipe
VWR air intake and Stage 2 APR map
Location: Southampton, Hants

Gloss black mirror option

When I ordered my R I went for the gloss black mirrors but the car has turned up with silver ones. Obviously I don't like them and VW said they will rectify it.

Does anyone know if it's simply a different colour paint or something else? They stated they could book it in to have them painted but I would like to know if that's the best option please?

Is it the whole mirror or just the top that's silver

I'd say yes its just painted. unless it's like the audi s3 which has chrome mirror caps. . if they are going to paint them then just make sure they do a good job.

And in reponse to above question.
It would just be the mirror caps. Not whole mirror.

You could also but carbon fibre caps to replace them

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes it's just the top and the silver chrome looking ones are just painted I have found out. I'd like to see carbon ones on someone's car.

If you go carbon don't buy the carbon stick on covers. They stick over your existing caps and look shit. Gloss black all the way. Love mine.

I'd get the dealer to paint a primed set gloss black and keep the brushed ones, the brushed ones are silly money new and different

A painted set of mirror caps by VW cost me about £120

Really? When I went to Kidlington vw they wanted that just for the caps without painting them.

Thanks for the advice guys.

The dealer got back to me and said its not normal paint but an anodised coating so they can't spray them. They are ordering a new set of gloss black and will give me the silver ones as spares.
