Paint removal

Post by Les Burum »

Just noticed that there are a couple of dabs of what I believe is white car paint on my leather steering wheel. I picked the car up from the dealer yesterday and my guess is the pre sale valeter had some paint on his gloves when he brought my car round for handover.
Any ideas what's best to get the paint off with please?

If you want them to scrub the leather off!!!!

Try using a MF towel and some leather cleaner, if not then you may perhaps try some degreaser or APC locally.

Or get the dealer to provide you with a brand new steering wheel.

Or try a magic sponge but be very gentle as they are aggressive.

If they took the leather off after their attempt to clean then I would be demanding a new wheel. Does the OP know if it is indeed paint? Could be dried polish, if it is indeed paint Id be very worried about the rest of the car.

Problem with that is it's 300+ miles and a five hour drive just to get there.

It could be dry polish. I made an assumption that it was paint because I'd tried to rub it off with a wet finger but with no success.

Whatever it was it's now sorted. IPA wipe and a gentle coaxing with an old bank card has cleaned up nicely. Thanks for the advice folks.
