Child Car Seats in the back of my rocco dad mobile

Post by millzy »

Hello,

I picked up a new 2.0 TSI Auto last week and so so happy with it. I came across this forum while searching to see what child seat I should buy that would fit best in the back for my nearly 3 year old. Today we went for our first family drive so I thought I'd share what I found as it may help some others!

Main news is that it IS a proper family car! 2 kids in the back with a large pushchair in the boot so happy days!

My wife has a Mazda 5 Sport 7 seater with sliding doors, we have a nearly 3 year old and a new born <1 week old - it's been a mad week! So today we went out for our first drive with the new born and we used all the kit we already have. Bugaboo Chameleon in the boot with the big basinet and it fits which is cool. Parcel shelf sticks up a bit and I wouldn't want to do that all the time as i'd probably make some marks and scratches on the boot from time to time. No problem for very now and then though.

Baby sat in a rear facing maxi cosy with out a base, just with the seatbelt round. Felt sturdy enough in the seat and easier enough to click in. Just enough room to fit in without me needing to move my drivers seat forward.

Our nearly 3 dude sat in his Maxi cosi axis, belted in with the seat belt. It fitted fine, and wasn't really hindered by the bucketed seats. It doesn't feel quite as rigid as it does in the mazda on flat seats, but it feels secure. There was also no need for my wife to scoot her seat forward, again, just enough room.

I doubt i'll ever have the little-est one in the car again, generally the mazda will go with him. The bigger fella will come every now and then, so i'll get him his own seat. I'm looking for one that goes from 9months to 12 years as he is not quite ready for the group 2 ones but will be within 6 months. I'm not sure whether to go for ISO fix or not to get the best fit and what type is going to be easier to fit in. I've got a pretty good idea now and I'm going to go for one the group 1-3 recaros. If anyone has one of these and has any advice let me know! I'm not sure whether to get the ISOFix that must be fastened with the seatbelt at all times, or the non-isofix that uses a normal harness until they are at the next stage.

About 6 months ago when my little one outgrew her seat we looked at a different one for my car as the wife has a cybex sirona in her tiguan that does upto 4yo. So off to halfords we went.. Tried the recaro sport in first as I liked the look of it and thought it would look cool in the back of the car and sort of match the exsistong seats. The lad brough it out to the car and tried it in and the width of the base of the recaro didn't sit well at all in the rear bucket, to the point I thought it was unsafe and the lad agreed with me. We ended up with the axis as it's easy to get her out of the car from the drivers side when I park up in the garage.
Pop down to halfords and try a few out, halfords do price match everywhere and have all the prices adjusted accordingly on the tickets.

We ended up getting a few fitted in mothercare and went for the britax which went really tight really easily. The mothercare own brand didn't fit at all though!
