Hi,
My car is about 6 months old now, and I have noticed first thing in the morning, my starter motor makes a sort of 'ting' sound almost like its vibrating off something, or not releasing correctly.
Any one else had any issues?!
Due a service shortly, so might just ask VW to look it at.

Sounds like a loose timing belt. Can be serious, but atleast in Denmark, VW has promised to correct any problems caused by loose timing belts, I'm not sure if it's worldwide.

Re: Starter motor rattle
I would expect a timing belt, if loose, to make noise at more than just starting up, and for more than half a second

when there is no oil pressure - what exactly should tighten hydraulic belt ?
The other thing that this sound is in idle........ so I would not worry...

hi there, it looks like your chain is also too loose just like i had untill today.
my brother replaced the chain, tentioner and chain gears and now the sound is gone.
you should look for somebody that can do it for you because the vw garage does it for €1500 and my brother works in a garage and got the parts for €300, just a small note i got this price because my brother is a mechanic.
if you dont want to change it thats also not a problem but i was really annoyed by the sound when starting my car.

I don't think its the timing chain. The car is only 6 months old!
Im 99% sure its a heat shield that vibrates
