Hi all,
So I had to take my roc over to the folks at VW the other day to get the air-conditioning recharged. Whilst they were doing that they told me they'd give the vehicle a health check for free, thinking nothing of it I left the car with them and went off to work. I then got a call about an hour later to say everything looked good but I did have a slight oil leak, the inspection note detailed that this was a result of a split in the turbo outlet seal. They quoted me an approx figure of about £170 to fix it, to which I told them I'd think about it... knowing fore well that the seal itself wouldn't be any more than about a tenna.
I'm yet to buy the part because I wanted to try and see if I could find where the seal itself was, looking through the engine bay is just impossible as the turbo itself appears to be buried behind the cat which itself is only just visible. So I decided to get the car in the air and take off the component protector on the bottom. I could see oil over some of the hoses but still can't really get my hands in to get to the turbo.
My question is then, can anyone advise whether it is possible to replace the seal without dropping the whole thing out, if so how would you go about it, bottom up I guess... or is it worth just getting VW to do it to save the hours of tight hand spots.
Cheers! Ryan.
