Brakes "squeak" in ultra low speed

Post by eddie_gordo »

Hi,

I bought a 2.0 TSI DSG Scirocco yesterday and I noticed that, depending on how I release/push the brake pedal when starting to move/stopping, the brakes make a squeak sound, exactly like the one on this video:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is this normal? I noticed that if I am really gentle on the brake pedal it won't make any noise, but when I'm making some tight manoeuvres it happens a lot and it seems a little annoying...

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Anyone? :shrug:

I also noticed that this is more frequent in the morning, so it probably happens when the brake pads are cold(er). Does anyone have a clue if this is normal, or should I check this?

Thanks in advance

My 09 plate TSI has always done the same thing, usually when the breaks are cold. A manoeuvre such as reversing off the drive in the morning and straightening up is usually accompanied by a few "chrips". I don't think its anything to worry about... at least that's what the dealer told me when I bought it and I believe him obviously ;)

Thank you for the reply, ncomben!

Yes, I also hear the "chrips" which seem to be coming from the suspension/car torsion. And yes, it's seems like it's nothing to worry about, still a bit annoying though... I may ask the guys at the VW dealership when I take the car to maintenance next time, just in case. :)

Cheers!

I get them all the time, particularly when reversing out of someones drive that is on a slight slope. I think it is just some sort of chasis / suspension movement and don't think it is anything to worry about. Interesting that after shampooing my car it doesn't do it for a couple of days so I guess the soap is lubricating whatever it is

Bizarre as it may seem, the tailgate stops/poppers that are triggered when the boot opens can cause these chirps. Lift the tailgate and test them. There's a TPI for this: TPI 2023774/1. Replacement of the stops cured the problem for me.
