Worth the upgrade?
Hey,
I recently bought a 177 TDI R Line with all the tasty extras..
My dilemma is this.. I have been browsing the net for Rocco R's and I have seen a few in my budget..
Now I can get a 2010 / 2011 for my budget.. but ideally I want the recaros or at least full leather..
My car is near enough new.. and essentially trouble free & cheap motoring for 3 years.
Is the performance of the R's worth it? So that I could justify the swap?
What are they like as a daily?
I currently have a dsg box.. what is the general consensus of dsg vs. Manual in an R? Or is it all personal preference?
Any feedback would be great!
Kind regards,
Andy.

Of the 700 r models in the uk, approx two thirds are dsg, so hunting a manual one will be harder. When on the move the dsg makes it a very competent a road performer.

Re: Worth the upgrade?
just did a cross country jaunt in rush hour this am , about 45 miles, somehow managed to achieve 37.5 mpg just letting the car gently flow with the traffic in drive (AC off, but stop start at times). a bit less on the journey back as the roads were clearer.
You will notice the on /off boost more than your TDI, more old school Turbo. Keep the revs between 3-4k using the paddles and you can make extremely efficient progress.

Hi mate
When I was looking for my R I was looking for DSG. Ended up getting excatly what you are looking for. I got DSG and Recaros and absolutely love them and love the car. Also as Luke said the power is unreal. Remap next for me and I'll need wings lol

Cheers for the replies
but I've made the decision to px my car in for something cheap and fun (ST 150). My next car will definitely be an R with my ideal spec

Not too sure why you want to PX so soon Andy, as you will lose a heap on depreciation.

Re: Worth the upgrade?
I got an ex demo for a brilliant price.. and I would rather lose what I have done so far than carry on and lose more on a car I haven't really 'bonded with' and will never own.. (I had positive equity on my px).
As I said.. I will definitely be back with an R

Re: Worth the upgrade?
It is mate. Good fun and a cheap little warm hatch. A downgrade from the luxuries of the Roc.. The cost of buying the ST and running it for a year plus £500 aside for maintenance if need be is just a smudge more than just my current Rocco finance per annum.

I take it you've bought new? I thought the new fiesta st was 179 bhp?andyy wrote:It is mate. Good fun and a cheap little warm hatch. A downgrade from the luxuries of the Roc.. Re: Worth the upgrade?
No mate, I got a mk6. As I mentioned previously, the main reason for the change is me wanting an R.. so this downgrade is just until one comes up with the spec I want.. I don't see the point in paying through the teeth for a car I haven't bonded with whilst constantly thinking 'I wish I had the R'.. I guess i should have just waited in the first place.. in my defence though.. I went to look at a gti with a mate (that he wanted) and I came back with the Roc.. so I didn't exactly plan buying it haha.whiteDevil_170 wrote:I take it you've bought new? Re: Worth the upgrade?
Barely any difference in comfort as a daily driver and that's on 19s.
Very civilised until...
Just such a beast when you open it up.
I love changing gear but yes mpg is not great.
People respect you more on the roads in an R too
