Evening All,
I had my Scirocco broken into a few weeks ago and they ripped the head unit out and did £3,000 worth of damage (I now lock it in my garage!!!)
Anyway the insurance replaced the unit with a new model that looks to have all the updated firmware etc...... however when I now pair my Samsung S4 and stream my music using Google Play Music it no longer seems to do it over Bluetooth. Problem is the device recognises the device and shows the song playing but no sound! only way I seem to get sound is by clicking selection and then play from the list of Bluetooth devices. Only problem I then have is that the songs can't be moved on from the steering wheel and have to be done from the phone which is annoying.
Can anyone advise?
Paul

Re: RNS 510 Head Unit
Firmware problem I suspect! Do you have access to VCDS/VAGCOM? Do you know the firmware its running?
P.S: Sorry you had your car broken into
, problem with RNS510s is that they are too easy to nick and reprogram :/

Re: RNS 510 Head Unit
How would I find the firmware revision?
I could ring the insurance company back up as the unit does have 12 months of warranty, they may want me to take it to a VW dealer as i noticed it was carried out by an actual VW garage not a 3rd party.

Re: RNS 510 Head Unit
If you have access to VCDS, you can go into the Navigation or Radio control module to find out. Another option is to uninstall the unit and read the sticker to see what SW version it is.
The earliest version of firmware that solves that issue is 3980 (from the top of my head, so might not be accurate).
I had the exact problem when I installed my RNS510.
And of course, you can always take it to VW and ask if they have an update to the firmware

Does what work for other headunits?
If you are asking about the firmware - No, RNS510s only. There are some "safe" versions you can download for the 39xx, 42xx and 52xx that have been modified so as not to "brick" older units. Those are the ones I use.
But these updates don't apply to the RCD510 or any other unit
