Bonnet cable broken

Post by arthur look »

Just a bit of info about very stiff bonnet cable,I just had my bonnet cable snap, took it to garage and they said it was made up of two cables and it was the one half that goes to the bonnet catch that had broken, had to take the wheel arch inner cover out and remove the front bumper to gain access to the catch only to find the catch was faulty as well,it was a right pain in the neck to do I was told and lucky for me it was still under warranty from where I just bought it from, anyway got it home only to find that the cable was still so hard to pull to open bonnet I was still sure the cable was going to break again. My own remedy was to open the bonnet while someone else held the bonnet down to release the pressure, unscrewed the two hex nuts holding the top bonnet catch on and removed put two penny washers on and then put all back in place, this made the catch about 3mm lower and now the bonnet opens perfect with no pressure on the cable, Hope this hint helps others because a broken cable could cost you a fortune in labour charges so be aware
