Hi All,
I'm after some advice/opinions.
We have recently taken delivery of a Scirocco R-Line 2.0 TDi DSG in Indium Grey. It's a lovely car and a joy to drive. However one of the front wheels was damaged on a dropped/faulty man hole cover on the outside of the rim and we had to fork out the £700 for a new one. (Currently in the process of trying to claim the cost of the wheel from the company who own the drain cover.) We have driven it for a while until I noticed a judder like another wheel was buckled when driving it. Sure enough on inspection two more wheels were buckled and we were advised that we needed to replace them.
I have had a number of cars with 18 and 19 inch wheels before, and never had an issue with buckling or bending one at all. Both myself and my partner drive carefully and are mindful of the size of the wheel, lack of tyre and condition of the road. The wheels that are on the car are Lugano 19 inch items manufactured (I believe) by Ronal.
I have Googled the subject and it seems common that people have experienced soft wheels from VWG. (I would imagine if the casting mix was incorrect during manufacture the wheels would be too soft.) I could understand bending one as bad luck which is why we paid to replace it, but 3 seems more like a manufacturing defect with the wheels fitted to the car from the factory.
I have opened a case with VW UK customer service and am awaiting a call back. Hopefully they will replace the wheels as good will and refund us for the £700 wheel we have already forked out for.
What are your thoughts/opinions being Scirocco owners yourselves? Does anyone have any similar experiences?
Thanks in advance,
Joe
