Hi guys, recently purchased a 10 plate 1.4 TSI Scirocco, couldn't be happier, beautiful car and at a decent price.
Anyway, I have been reading this forum and others for the past few hours trying to find answers to a few questions I have but to be honest I'm just getting slightly overwhelmed, there's so many different answers/opinions - so hopefully some of you can answer my questions directly.
Apologies in advance as I'm sure these get asked and answered many times every week.
1) the car I bought doesn't have Bluetooth as standard, I'm not sure what model head unit I have installed but it has the 'phone' button on it which simply mutes the speakers, I don't think it has the Bluetooth pack underneath the drivers seat either. There is a BT option in the settings but it does nothing and my phone doesn't pick anything up.
- how would I go about retro-fitting one of these or would I be best to simply buy a third party head unit and get it fitted etc, I also have third party fitted rear sensors which are sound only - how would fitting a third party head unit effect this?
2) similar question to the above, my car doesn't have the multifunction steering wheel as I weren't that bothered about having it at the time.
- how would I go about fitting a third party system and does anyone recommend any in particular?
I've heard people mention Fiscom, VAGCOM etc but I'm not 100% sure what all of it means.
And finally 3) what settings can I change without the VAGCOM? Is there a list anywhere?
Any answers/links to tutorials will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Not come across a MY10 without a MFSW (MultiFunction Steering Wheel) before. But I don't think this will affect what "head unit" you want to put in, it just means you wont be able to control it via the steering wheel.
1) You can get a third party BT kit - Fiscon basic plus. Do an internet search and price lists should come up. I think they are one of the forum sponsors as well, so check the sponsor area of the site.
Retrofitting OEM bluetooth isn't a bad idea either if you don't mind removing trim and passing wiring over through the head lining. I got the BT Module for £190 the tools probably cost me about £20 to buy, so not too bad. The fitting took me a week, but I was a novice... and most of that time was spent ripping out the non OEM bluetooth system that was already in place
. If I didnt have that, install would have taken a few hours.
You can fit in any "head unit" you want, just make sure it has the right connectors to fit the existing plugs. I am sure these are pretty standard.
Not sure how it would affect your rear sensors though, you might have to look into how the rear sensor is wired into the unit.
2) Fiscon is a third party bluetooth system, and this integrates very well into VW cars. VAGCOM or VCDS info can be found here. You will need to carry out some coding with this if you do a self install for your bluetooth; there might be people in your area willing to help.
3) Depends what settings you want changed - sorry for the ambiguous answer, the question isn't clear.
P.S: Is your MFD (little screen between the rev counter and speedo) a white one, or red one?

Re: Purchased a Scirocco, a couple of questions
Thanks for the detailed response
I was thinking of either getting the Fiscon and installing it myself (but I've read I'd still need a VAGCOM to enable it?) or get a completely new head unit from a third party such as this http://bit.ly/ZZZ53U" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it'd cost a couple of hundred pound more but I'd be getting a lot more features and someone fit it for me.
With regards to the MFSW, if we're talking about the same thing here I'm assuming it means controls for the radio volume, station etc on the wheel itself, not a seperate stork by the indicators/wipers etc which mine doesn't have and I viewed a few Sciroccos that had the same?
With regards to my MFD it's white - what's the difference compared to the red?
Sorry if any of that response sounds newbie - haven't had a proper play around with it just yet.

Yes - the MFSW does provide you control for the stereo, volume etc, also the opposite button controls the toggle through of the various MFD functions of mpg, distance, time since start those kind of things.StefanWolves wrote:Thanks for the detailed response

The white MFD was installed on MY10 models onwards, the red one is an older unit (like mine MY09), but the display functions I believe are all similar except you will probably have oil temperature as well.

Re: Purchased a Scirocco, a couple of questions
Ah okay thanks for that, never had a car this new so there's a lot to take in! Just been doing some searching and have found that I had the RCD510 unit, how easy is it to replace this with the RNS510 + add the Bluetooth unit? Also does that unit come with gps satnav etc?

Not difficult to change from a RCD510 to a RNS 510 which has satnav. There are threads on the site with the details (retrofit RNS 510). In summary the main change is the need for a GPS antenna which you can fit behind the radio as lots of room, a microphone if you want voice activation that can be a pain to wire in as some of the roof and pillar panel need to be removed and recoding of the multimedia controller using VAGCOM software and cable. The latest version of RNS 510 also has DAB and that would require a further antenna.
Re: Purchased a Scirocco, a couple of questions
welcome Stefan
the 1.4 has never had MFSW as standard until comparatively recently, week 12 of 2012, before then this was a cost option and is not really a viable retrofit due to cost and parts that require changing including the mfd & dash computer.
Yes the RNS510 does have sat nav/gps
Hope you're enjoying it

(dimexi the red mfd was only ever on very very early scirocco's up to May 2009, ie 58 plate and very very early 09)

Re: Purchased a Scirocco, a couple of questions
Thanks all.
Looks like I'll be purchasing a RNS510 hopefully with DAB and trying to retrofit it myself, and then a Fiscon+ for Bluetooth etc. I may even purchase a VCDS for the hell of it then when I'm finished sell it on for a small loss.
I'll have a search on here for a tutorial on how to swap the head unit and wire it up with mich, extra DAB antenna etc.
Just a final couple of questions; are there any after market third party add ons that imitate what the MFSW does? Also I've read on a couple of threads that a code is needed when changing the head unit in the scirocco, I'm assuming this is the VCDS coding?
Cheers again
PS this may be a long shot but does anyone know of a user on this forum with a VCDS in the Birmingham/Wolverhampton area or close to?
