Funny Rattle noise - The Fix

Post by FirefighterTony »

So for 2 months now I have lived with a metallic rattle noise ( like little metal bits being shook in a tin can ) and for 2 months I have searched far and wide for where it was coming from, nevermind the actual fix!

It was happening in all gears over 2nd between 1800rpm and 3500rpm. it was embarrassing.

I took my chances with the research I had found and decided that it was the turbo actuator rod ( please correct me on tech terms as I am usually incapable of changing my own wheel most of the time )
I emailed VW, I asked no questions, made no fuss or no complaints, I just simply requested a part! a 'Wastegate rattle clip' ... it arrived, I jacked the car up and I fitted myself!

IT WORKED!! PERFECTLY!! No more rattle at all!

I have read many threads on this subject and by the end of them there was no definitive answer as to if it even worked, I am writing this thread to say without doubt... the clip works! £ 13.42 + vat! :)

i take it if the car is out of warranty you have to pay for fix yourself,if its left will any damage be done through time, many thanks for any replies.

Yes - if out of warranty, I'm afraid you would have to pay for it yourself as it is not a safety issue. It won't cause any damage, I barely noticed it on mine! It was only the experts on this forum that bought my attention to it!

Yup, had mine done by VW as a warranty job nearly 2 years ago. Plenty of threads about it all over the place. Glad you're sorted though :)
