Turbo problem? Please share thoughts!

Post by Ram91 »

I'm having an unlucky week. First the LED's one side of my car go and now this.

When the Turbo kicks in its making weird sound. i thibk yhe best way to describe it is almost a ratteling sound? It's only started tonight. The car sounds normal when crusing along but the strange sound appears when I put my foot down and feel the turbo kicking in.
Any thoughts? I'm still under my VW warranty so am praying that if the turbo is on the way out the warranty will cover it

With any luck, may not be serious, could be a wastegate rattle which is a known issue.

Please take a look at this thread about it. http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... le#p112309" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hopefully it is just that.

Cheers dude. I listened to a few examples on YouTube. It doesn't sound that bad.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid but the noise has caught my ear. I no longer get the clear whistle the turbo usually makes, it's almost like the whistle has gotten a bit dirty if that makes sense? Like its sucking in dirty air. It's not very loud nor is it affecting the performance so I'm hoping if the turbo was breaking i would at least feel it. Who knows. Taking it to VW at the weekend.

After an inspection from VW they are replacing the turbo. Not entirely sure what the problem was as I only deal with the receptionist. Thank god it's covered by the warranty! On a positive note, I get a brand new shiny turbo.

Anyone suspect I might experience more power as it being a new turbo? Or will it feel pretty much the same?
