RCD510 radio code + VW HQ

Post by dimexi »

Hi guys,
I have a couple of questions (eventually).

I am going to install the VW OEM bluetooth module in my car soon, and as you know, I would probably have to disconnect the RCD510 for some time while I fit the module in behind the climatic controls.

I have read somewhere that if the RCD is disconnected from its harnesses for a period, it will ask for the radio code to be entered (I don't know if this is true). Another thing I read was that, if you called VW HQ, they would send you your radio code in a couple of weeks.
I called on Friday, and the guy I spoke to said they don't issue radio codes anymore, and I would have to go to my local dealer to get it "reprogrammed".

my questions are:
1) is the VW guy right? I mean, what if I sell my RCD510? How is the new owner meant to get a code?
2) How long after I disconnect the RCD510 will it need for me to enter a code?

Thanks for your help. My car is a MY2010 'roc

Your VW dealer will give you the code if you have the car vin number, radio number and can produce the car registration document. The radio is matched to the car chassis code of the original car so it is not normal to require to recode when it is disconnected unless moving to a different car. Therefore you should not need the code if it is going back into the same car.

Thank you very much salsajoe!! I defnitely got FALSE information from VW then - (i forgot to add) the guy I spoke to, told me it would require a code as soon as I unplugged it, which I knew was untrue.

Thanks for clearing things up :)

It's a given, unfortunately :( Unless he somehow knew it wasn't the original factory paired radio!? Hmm... but if a radio is replaced and the code entered... is that radio paired for life with the car?

If its the original RCD510 you will not be asked to enter a radio code, the car 'remembers' it.

Thanks guys - that's good to hear. I believe it's the Original; well, it came with the car + manuals etc.

Not sure how it works with a non original unit in the car. Guess you will always have to enter the code

I would have thought that even if it wan't the original unit for that car then it wouldn't have been working before unless it hadn't been "paired" with the car. So as its already working, it should be remembered and work again after being disconnected.
