DSG Paddle Fault (NEWBIE!)

Post by tg77 »

HI All,

I took ownership of my Black MY2010 2.0 TSI DSG a couple of weeks ago. Even though it had just passed its MOT an RAC inspection with flying colours, it was due a service so I promptly drove to my local VW dealership to get this done (I wanted to preserve the VW Service history). For peace of mind, I also asked them to have a good look all over. I was pleased(ish) to hear that everything was fine, except for needing the coolant pump replacing due to "slight seepage". Fortunately VW agreed to contribute towards the cost of this as it’s only a few months out of warranty, so I got it all done for £175 (which I was pleased with given that on a previous used car I purchased, I had to shell out £4K for a new gearbox and head gasket a month after taking ownership!!!)

I got my Rocco back with the new water pump on Friday and had been driving around with a very big smile on my face....until yesterday, when the down-shift paddle decided to stop working altogether! :grumpy: Drive and Sport modes continued to work perfectly. I could also change up and down normally using the auto Gear stick. There was also no problem using the up-shift (right) paddle. I just could not change down using the left down-shift paddle! All other functions on the MFSW worked normally.

I like to drive with the seat low, and with my legs out stretched. I therefore have the steering wheel adjusted so that it is pretty much fully extended. I wondered whether this might have caused some strain on the wiring. To try and fix the issue, I started readjusting the Steering wheel to various positions to see if this would re-seat any loose connections. All of a sudden (after a good 30 minutes and several miles of driving), the down-shift paddle started working again, and has continued to work normally since (I keep on going out for little drives to make sure it still works! :) ).

I've done some searching, and I've only found the following link which sounds similar to my issue:

Does anybody on here know if my Rocco uses the same DSG paddles as discussed in the above post (part no 1K0 951 527 B REH)? Whilst the paddle is working fine now, if I do have the same problem, then I'm expecting this problem to keep reappearing until I replace the paddle.....though I am hoping it was just a "one-off".

Has anyone else suffered from this issue? Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Please accept my appolgies if I've posted this in the wrong place or broken any other forum rules. I'm a complete NEWBIE with all this forum malarky!
