6 CD Autochanger

Post by Tallguy »

I notice the latest model Scirocco's come with sat nav as standard but no CD autochanger. Presume a CD autochanger can be fitted in the central armrest; does anyone know the likely cost?
Personally, I would rather have a CD autochanger than sat nav but I am sure others will not agree.

I would have to double check, as I dont have satnav, but the RCD 500, and guess the RNS 500 too, unit itself takes 6 CD's. Is it the RNS unit that is current? I must admit, I havent kept up with the latest specs.

The new models now come with RNS315 Sat Nav as standard. This includes a CD player but not the 6 CD Autochanger as per the previous standard RCD510. I don't know if an external changer can be sourced for fitting in the armrest but in this day and age with the Media In function for Ipod/MP3 connectivity why carry around 6 CD's?

A quick look at VW's configuartor shows the "upgrade" from RNS315 to RCD510 with Dynaudio comes out at £440 whereas the RNS510 is £825.

As I read it, if you go for the 6 CD changer with the 310 unit then it goes in the centre armrest - but you lose the MDI (USB, iPod and audio inputs).
If you spec Dynaudio you get the RCD510 which has the CD changer built in so you keep the MDI. Likewise with the RNS510.

I had a quote 2 months ago for the 6 CD Changer from a volkswagen dealer in Leeds and the cost was £650 inc. fitting in the arm rest.
A little expensive though.
