Delaying collection worries

Post by Daz85UK »

My car is hopefully arriving end of February, however I am away from the 29th Feb so wont be picking the car up until mid march as I want the 12 plate.

It was brought to my attention in another thread that VW may use my car as a demo car on trade plates.

What are my options to stop this? I am going to try and arrange a pre collection inspection if it arrives before going on holiday and am going to tell them that the mileage can't change, however my worry is if they havn't done the PDI at that point, could they not put mileage on the car and claim that it was from the road test during the PDI?

Any other options to ensure they dont use it?

Thanks

Ive never heard of that happening before, i was delayed picking my new car up, but Mercedes simply locked it in their compound for 2 months, if my car was delivered with anything other than delivery miles ( i.e. sub 100 miles )i would reject it outright.

Is there nothing to say to them to stop it? Other than telling them that the mileage can't change after the inspection?

That sounds very wrong, you have paid for it, the vehicle is yours. The garage have no right to drive it whatsoever. We bought a new Polo GTI just over a year ago, but could not pick it up for a week later than scheduled because of snow. I said to the garage at the time that the car was NOT to be used, they were good to their word and the mileage was the same when we did pick it up.

My car arrived in August but I didn't collect it until September as I wanted it on the 61 plate. There were 11 miles on it when I collected it so it wasn't used as a demo car. VW should in no way be using your car for a demo! It is, after all, your car!

I've had 6 brand new VWs and never seen more than 8 miles on the clock for any of them, generally it's a mile or 2. How many miles can they put on it when driving it off the vehicle carrier, into the dealership compound and then around the dealership site for removing all the transportation materials (like films) PDIs, a good wash? Maybe they get driven to the local petrol station to add in a few gallons of fuel if you've asked for a "full tank".

The only exception I can think of is if maybe a dealership group has all their cars delivered to one central site and then they drive them to all the individual local dealerships? Never known that happen, but I suppose it is feasible and could put on the odd 10 or 20 miles.

The highest mileage I have had on a brand new car is 85! :eyepop:

I knew it had to be transferred from another dealership 35 miles away, the other 50 were put down to "transportation"!

A brand new Ford Puma I bought 10 years ago had 38 on it, again that was transferred between dealers.

My Scirocco had 12 on it when I picked it up .

Ask for the car not to be PDI'd until day of collection / day before collection, book your collection as mid week / end week. In the pre-PDI condition the car is basically undrivable.

Unfortunately that doesn't stop them. One of the "customer assigned" cars I drove was opened up by the saleman and seen to be pre PDI in the dash. I was asked to come back later the same day after it was PDI'd for the test drive.

Basically you will have to ask them to leave it in the storage pound untouched/pre PDI and trust them.
