service

Post by lloydie63 »

Hi all, I now have my eye on a Scirocco 2.0 tsi, registered in nov 2010 with 9K mileson the clock. As i'm a fair distance away from the dealer I phoned and asked a few questions one being has it a service history the reply was "no" and this was due to the low milage is this correct? I know of annual or long term services. If this is indeed correct I understand that there is a way of finding out when the next service is due thinking something to do with pressing the trip switch ???? Also if it's service is due what is it likely to cost (maybe a haggling point)If you can enlighten me on any of the details or more questions to ask over the phone I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lloydie, I would suggest that is a little bit odd given the lowish mileage. I would have expected it to have been on a time and distance regime so first service would have been due in Nov '11.

However - it may have been set up for longlife servicing (long term as you put it) as the owner may have been anticipating covering a higher mileage during the year but circumstances have changed. This may explain possibly why the car is up for sale with such a low mileage.

I would expect the service to be approx £150 or thereabouts. Your correct, it is possible within the MFD to check when the service is due. Is the car at a VW dealer?

No not at a VW dealer it's at an approved Peugeot dealer (randles of stafford)If it had missed a service would it still be in the manufactureres warranty? I do understand vehicles with low milage my fireblade is 15 years old and only has 19K on the clock, I would expect a buyer (when i get round to selling it) to be sceptical of the mileage if they were to buy it.

It's 7.3K not 9K as previously stated.

The cars come from the factory set to longlife service regime, which can be upto 2 years / 19k miles before the first service is due. Doesn't really surprise it's not had a service yet.

Some dealers change to time and distance during PDI.

Yes - looks a very nice car, mind you - my Roc has only 12K on it and it is a March 09!

The warranty would only be an issue if servicing had been missed either on time or distance or longlife regimes, I would just query that with the dealer. If it was set up for Longlife (which I suspect it has been), it should be switched back to Time and distance and serviced now as it no doubt has the oil and filter from when it was new.

Apart from that - it does look a good one, I would be pitching at £16K and perhaps working from there, but yes - worth querying the service - that would be my only bugbear, and it should be serviced (should you buy it) as part of the deal.

As long as you follow this advise I wouldn't worry about it.

On mine you just go into the vehicle status menu and it tells you when next service is due,

On my previous VW you had to switch on the ignition, fasten your seatbelt, and then push the trip button for 2 secs and it would come up in the display.

I wouldnt worry about it, buy it, get it serviced, oil, oil filter and pollen filter, and reset it to T&D regime giving you 1 year, 10k miles to next service.

Yes- absolutely agreed with the above, plus a years road tax thrown in as well, the previous tax disc has been surrendered.
