Top Speed...
Got a phone call from a mate today just after work, offering me an empty air-strip to take the Roc out for a little test on this evening. It's primarily a military servicing centre, so the runway + the side bits (no idea what they're actually called) gave me almost 3 miles with just a gradual bend.
Hit about 154mph on the clock, with the SatNav showing 149. I've got a little vid that I'll post later when I find somewhere to stick it!
Anyone know if it actually has a 155 limiter on it?

Not amazingly interesting, but shows it can get there! I'd been trawling through my iPod just before, hence the Metallica playing in the background...

I would love to put mine on a strip, it still pulls hard at 140 after the remap so would be good to see what it would go round to.

155 is good, does the car have a limiter?
All we need now is for someone to work out the top speed in reverse!
I'd love to see russ swift drive a roc!

Re: Top Speed...
I think what's more impressive is that the average MPG is still showing in double figures, now how do they do that??

Re: Top Speed...
I sat the speedwarning to 155 (250km/h) and after awhile it said "250km/h exceeded" in the display.
Don't know how much faster it could've gone. I had to let off the throttle. I'd love to try again some day since mine doesn't have the stock speedlimiter left after beeing upgraded. Car felt surprisingly steady @ those speeds. Next time I will have the driftbox with me to monitor the actual speed..

Re: Top Speed...
Did you do this when you were at 400 miles? So much for running your car in! Very good video though....

Yeah, I wasn't too bothered about running the engine in. As some people have already mentioned, the engines are run in on a bench, and there is school of thought (stemming from the biker world I believe) that it's actually beneficial to stretch the engine a bit from the start. I have however been a lot more careful when it comes to the tyres and brakes, and will probably be fairly gentle on them until I hit 1k or so.

Its beneficial to get high gas pressures within the cylinders to help the cylinder rings bed in.
If you pootle round at very low revs and low throttle whilst you run an engine in then you run the risk of removing all the microscopical high spots in the engine before the rings have had a proper chance to bed in and form a good gas tight seal. Its not neccesarily high revs that you need but high gas pressure. So mid range full throttle under load is good. Bikers often run engines in in this way, applying full throttle then slow down then full throttle and so on but keep the revs low-mid.
Ive also heard rumours that this can be one of the causes for some VW engines using a lot of oil later on in life whilst others are perfectly fine.
On the other hand, Machining tolerances are now that good its possible the above will be less critical, one friend of mine believes that an engine should be run in in the manner in which you wish to drive it once its done. i.e if you want to drive it hard then drive it hard from the off! Not so sure on that one myself but im a firm believer in the high gas pressure method as used by many bikers.
