Extras

Post by bennyb »

Just ordered my Scirocco yesterday I went for

Candy White GT blue motion

The only extras I put on were:
1) DAB Radio
2) Dynaudio package
3) Badge deletion

I wondered what people thought on other upgrades
I am not bothered about
-leather
-xenons
-cruise control
-parking sensors
- sat nav

I was thinking I may add the folding wing mirrors as I often park on the street and did wonder about the sunroof option...

Any thought would be gratefully received

I would definitely add the folding mirrors, I think they are only about £130 extra, which in the scheme of things, is not a massive amount extra. I would call the garage quickly though if you change your mind as once it enters the build phase, I don't think they allow changes.

I do have the sat-nav, but it is very expensive, and updates are not cheap either. A lot of people will convince you to have the parking sensors, I believe they are very useful as visibility is not the best, but I have managed to get by without them.

Parking sensors for me are a must, rear visibility is very poor! Im pretty sure you cant have sat nav with the DAB upgrade so if youve got a smart phone with a sat nav app on it use that. I commute 70 miles per day on 'A' roads and cruise is very nice! Xenons, I wish I had ordered those myself! Leather, not sure if its worth the cost to upgrade as the cloth seats are fine.

In the past I've not bothered with parking sensors but after driving a Rocco and the poor rear vision they were on top of my list. For me Xenons are a must too as i drive a lot at night and they offer other little benefits too if specced such as LED No, plate lights and cornering lights.

DAB and Dynaudio are both excellent and well worth the money.

Cheers guys

I never thought about the parking sensors due to the poor visibility.
Xenons I am sure are nice but I managed to buy the car for £20,000 and to add on nearly a grand just for improved lights is not for me.

Hopefully can add on the sensors though, only ordered last night at 5pm so hopefully all ok

If you only ordered last night you should have plenty of time, I didn't get a build date for weeks after I placed my order. I'm another one that favours the park sensors, you'll be pleased you have them first time you need to inch your way out of a multi-story!

Sunroof would be my last option, but people have different priorities I guess.

Parking sensors are very convenient due to the lack of visibility. It has actually saved me from bumbing the back in a parking house once due to a pillar in the deadzone. That said, you'll get used to the sort of visibility when reversing, so if you're careful you'll manage without the reverse parking sensors. But I would choose them if I were in your shoes.

I'd absolutely go for the folding mirrors. Great when reversing (tilts down oppsite of drivers side), and automatic folding of course. They are a cheap option, but are a hassle to retrofit I believe, cause there's no motor in the mirrors if you don't select it from factory.

Leather is a matter of taste. I chose it with my setup (R-Line) because I didn't want grey/white alcantara with a black car. R leater was thus my only option.

I'd also conside Xenons, they are great when it's dark, and the front looks a lot meaner :) But it's expensive, so it's understandable if it's dropped.

Cruise control? Well, didn't chose it myself, but you'll have to consider how much you're cruising on motorways before checking this option.

I wouldn't bother about the Sat Nav, allthough it sure is convenient. Way too expensive in my opinion!

You can always add such things as parking sensors after it's delivered. I had them fitted when I bought my second-hand Scirocco, they cost me £240 and I'm very pleased I did largely because the reversing light is really very very dim so tight parking at night (with half the street lights now off) is not fun.

I think choosing parking sensors is a no brainer. It's like looking back through a letterbox otherwise and the hips are deceptively wide.

I got leather seats cos they come with heating as well and that was a nice bonus.

Cruise is great. I don't do loads of motorway driving but it's good when I do and great for those average speed zones, just get to the allowed limit, turn it on and relax.

As mentioned I thought satnav was hugely overpriced and I can read maps, plus a lot of smartphones now have nav apps.
