RCD 510 Screen Broken
As I was driving along a motorway (3 days passed the end of my warranty!) the screen on my RCD 510 stopped displaying. The thing still plays and the touch screen responds, however this requires some lucky guesses with where to press.
The VW dealer tell me a new one will cost £840 but VW will pay 40% as it is just out of warranty....
New ones seem to be selling for 350 online so I think I might be able to save myself some money even with the 40% discount.
Anyone else had this problem or had any experience changing radio units?

Re: RCD 510 Screen Broken
I think offering 40% after 3 days expiration of warranty is taking the pi$$. So if it happened last week persumably they would pay 100%. I would be haggling for about 80% of the cost, it should not fail after just 3 years use. I assume £840 is for a whole new unit.Oli_b wrote:As I was driving along a motorway (3 days passed the end of my warranty!) the screen on my RCD 510 stopped displaying. Id get on to VW customer care to see what they will do for you, as said above 40% is taking the wee wee, they should be doing it under warranty for you!

I haven't myself, but sincerely hope the garage tried that. They said that something internal is broken and it is not possible to replace individual parts, the whole unit needs replacing.Shaun wrote:Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting it ?

Customer care were politely unhelpful. 40% is the best they can do and the purchase price (840) is the purchase price.... Frustrating.

Buy a second hand one then, only takes 10 minutes to fit one, or use it as an excuse to upgrade and get a RNS

Re: RCD 510 Screen Broken
That is terrible, 3 days out of warranty as well. I thought there was a sliding scale of 'goodwill' payments, I think there is with Ford, so they would pay 90% of the cost if just out of warranty and that would obviously drop (quite rapidly) the further out of warranty you go. I am really disappointed and just hope mine holds out. Yours is the first one I have heard of that has got this fault though. Really sorry mate about this.Oli_b wrote:Customer care were politely unhelpful. 40% is the best they can do and the purchase price (840) is the purchase price.... Frustrating.
