2.0 TSI oil usage

Post by bitmadmax »

Hi all,

I am considering an R, but just wanted to see what everyone's experience was of the engine? On my old GTI with the 2.0 TFSI I was using about 200ml per 1000 miles :eyepop: Apparently this was within spec? Can anyone tell me if their R uses any oil?

Thanks :)

used one liter since last service = 15.000 km. (that includes some trackdays...)

Did not use any on the first 25.000 km.
Well at least less then 1 liter, because the olie lamp did not turn on (never actually tested with the dip stick)

oil consumption fine in my R too...

In order to avoid excessive oil consumption, perhaps you should try a slightly aggressive engine break in :after proper oil warmup (90 degrees centigrade)frequent 3-4K rpm accelerations, holding engine in the 4k rpm range, then lifting off the throttle pedal, till the rpms reach 3K,thus allowing the engine to cool down.According to other users, this approach seems to help piston springs seal better ....

Mine's not used a drop so far, last serviced at 14k miles with the level still showing as max.

Mine has also used very little, just tiny top ups when it was newer. I did not follow any particular running in procedure. Just drove it normally, no high revs or driving like the proverbial Miss Daisy either, and it hardly uses any.

I do wonder how the dealer treated mine in the 5000 miles they ran it as a demo......the sales woman who drove it most of time said "I've never taken it off of sport setting" so might be an indication.....but I am not over concerned at 10,000 ish between top ups....
