Long life service - Worth getting a major service?

Post by Jake Turbo »

My scirocco is on a long life service plan but as I'm now doing lots of small journey's in traffic I don't think that it's really suited for it anymore.
I believe the long life plan is for people who do motorway journeys where consistent speed is maintained and it's not stop start all the time...

My car has done 20,000 miles now and I've had a couple of oil changes on it already - once at 10,000 and again at about 19,500.

I'm now at about 21,000 miles and want to make sure my car stays in tip top condition as I want to keep it for another 3 or 4 years before I think about replacing it (it's about 2 years old already) and also want to make sure it stays running well throughout that time.

So... I'm going to get it in for a major service, for peice of mind sake really... Is this a good idea or just a waste of time?

Cheers!

If it's getting an oil change every 10k miles or so, you can just leave the major stuff every 2 years without worry. Oil change at 10k miles is the most important thing to be doing if you're not doing the vast majority of your miles on the motorway.

So as it's now 2 years old, get the major service? My ECU think I've got another 8,000 miles/365 days before I need a service!
