Stone Chips

Post by bleedsoff »

Got my car washed yesterday and there are some mega Stone Chips on it now

Just wandering whats the best advice to get these sorted? Do VW do a Sumatra touch up paint?? Have had a brief look online and can't find it on their lists. Is it a relatively easy thing to do yourself, or easy to screw it up big time? Because I am a complete noob when it comes to these things! Or would it be best to pay someone to sort them out?

I am right in thinking Sumatra paint code is LR8X? The guide looks good but I don't have garage or a few days to let the paint dry.

You will only be using small amounts of paint to fill stone chips and that will dry in minutes. So you don't need a garage, just a reasonably fine day. You can spread the job over several days.
Sanding down the raised blobs of new paintwork can be a real pain and it is so easy to mess up the surrounding good paintwork in the process. If you don't fancy getting in to a "bonnet restoration job" like the guy in the guide then you might decide to just fill your chip about level with the surrounding paintwork and leave it at that. Not prefect but much better than it was before and not likely to rust.
