Manual to DSG

Post by Gadgetbuster »

OK so i have been driving my 2.0 TSI petrol for a couple of weeks now, and i am loving it :vibes:

As i have come from a manual car before i am a little unsure if my style of driving is causing a couple of things to happen.

Basically i just want to make sure i am not doing something wrong.

1. when i slow down no matter how how gentle i am on the brake i some times seem to get a bit of a final judder (think that is the best way to explain it) before the car finally stops

2. when i set off i take my foot off the brake and then go to accelerate and there is almost a double jolt forward, also a very slight pause in acceleration

After reading what i have just wrote it sounds like these are major issues, but they are not and i don't want you to think the judder is causing my wife whip lash and the acceleration double jolt is anything more than a slight jolt.
Is this just the automatic way?

Any views would be appreciated

This sounds like the mechatronics unit playing up (or at least not being as smooth as it could be) - you shouldn't notice any judder when coming to a stop at most you should feel the gear change and engine braking but it shouldn't cause a judder. Do you notice which gears it's doing the juddering in (3 -> 2, 2 -> 1 or already in 1st)?

I had a similar thing, 3 -> 2 would cause juddering which I put down to not being used to DSG / road surface etc. Mechatronics unit was replaced and now smooth as it should be.

My downshift is pretty good and as the box gets older I expect it to be smoother still. Because mine is a diesel I don't have the worry of feathering the throttle in 1st but again mine is smooth. My only whiplash is when I floor it, especially at about 40 mph, and that's down to the torque of the 170 engine. However, what you are describing merits taking it back to the dealer for them to check it out. If it's as bad as you say then a simple test drive with a mechanic should bring the problem to light.

Had the mechanic take it for a test drive after fixing the centre arm rest and he said everything was fine. Guess driving a DSG is a little different to a manual
