RCD 510 Question

Post by gibbsy »

We were sitting in the car this afternoon listening to the radio and admiring the beautiful Welsh coastline. After about 15 minutes the radio switched itself off. Switched on the ignition and back it came. Is there a time out on the radio when the engine is not running?
Radio is very good indeed, best one I've had since a Bose system in a Mazda and far far superior to Volvo's offerings.

It will turn itself off after 30 mins to preserve battery life. If you turn it on again without turning on the ignition you normally get a warning to start the engine come up in the display. i suspect the RCD510 is quite power needy !!
IF IT'S NOT BROKEN
I'VE NOT TOUCHED IT YET !!

Thanks for that silver, I thought it was a battery saving device but I've never had it on any of my previous cars. However, every cloud has a silver lining, I'll tell the boss she's only got 30 minutes clothes shopping time, or I'll start to get bored and go for a drive. :p

Yes, this has been a standard function on all the head units I've had in my VAG cars although it used to be an hour before it turned itself off.

I remember many years ago I forgot to switch off an auto reverse tape deck, younger members ask your dad, and it ran all night. Battery wasn't flat but that tape was rather hot.
