Wax or Polymer Spray

Hi all,

I'm going to the last of my Meguiars wax and although its ok not been that impressed with it. When rubbing off I always seemed to be chasing yellow flakes around the car and it also left slight streaks on the bonnet that I could never rub out.

I was therefore thinking that a Prima Hydro - Polymer Spray Wax may be suited more to my style, has anybody tried it and is it better than wax in terms of durability and glossy shine?

Which Megs wax was it ?

Meguiars Gold Class Liquid Car Wax - To be fair it did protect and buff out some grey marks that were left when I reversed into a bush :s

Actually just checked the tin and its; Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus.. err not what I actually ordered! Hadn't noticed before hmm..

Any thoughts / views on the Polymer sprays? They sound easier to put on than wax?

Char, you should consider a pre-wax cleaner to clean the surface of any old wax, then apply afresh.

i am using a non-abrasive cleaner called Dodo Juice Prime lite.

I would prefer a synthetic sealant but in balm, rather than spray.

I had almost finished my Werstat acrylic jett and found the spray a bit too diluted. Yes , easy to work with, but not sure how much material i am putting on.

so i will be ordering the Carlack 68 - Long Life Sealant. its the same product but in a liquid balm form.

Ah cool thanks. I hadnt thought about removing the old wax Have ordered those products and will give them a bash over the weekend

Wow that Carlack 68 stuff is *hard* work. Put it on with cotton wool, sounds all clinical but then its a right job wiping off again. You cant just wipe it but have to use a lot of pressure, so two fingers in a cloth job. Spending 10mins polishing away the panel, step away from the car and you notice a bit you missed. Took about an hour to do the roof, 30mins on the bonnet, to give an example of the fun

It does feel better than wax, in that it seems to leave something behind, you can feel its different. But I would recommend a polishing machine!

it does take a lot of time char, i use that with the carlack nano systematic care, but it is sooo worth it.
i've spent the best part of 3 days over the bank holiday weekend washing, claying, sealing & waxing (my car was looking awful so really needed the time spent)
i don't recall anything about applying with cotton wool though, i just use a damp applicator/cloth.
definitely a product system where you need to do the car in a few sections

i have not ordered it yet Char, so i have no experience of this Carlack 68.

could diluting it on application helps? maybe to spray the panel with water ( using a spray bottle and leave a thin mist layer) and then apply the balm.

i still have enough of the werkstett spray for another 'job' before i need to buy.

I just read something on this Carlack 68 and someone did this;

"I mixed up around 100ml C68 LLS with 250ml Distilled water this makes the LLs sprayable and ive used it as a spray sealent. It does take a little longer to ''cure''."

maybe this could help it being too hard to wipe off.
