Sorry, one more question on DRL's (I promise)

Post by Sootchucker »

Hi chaps,

I know the subject of DRL's on the Rocco has been discussed to death, but one very quick question.

Using VCDS, and on a non Xenon equipped car (I.e. With the combined sidelight/indicator unit), is there any way possible to get just the side lights at then front lit without having the rears or the instrument cluster on ?

I know there had been discussions about setting the headlight brightness to 0% in VCDS to switch them off and just leave the sidelights on, but I guess that would also leave the rears on as well.

It's just I had a Golf MK6 hire car today, and the DRL's built into the headlights come on without the rears and wondered if this was possible on the Rocco ? I know the Golf has dedicated dual filament highbeams so the DRL's are different from the Rocco. In time, I'd be looking for lulians DRL unit's to replace the sidelights.

Cheers

Sootchucker: I've asked the exact same question and have not had anyone say "yes you can get the DRLs to run front sidelights only and nothing in the rear".

I suppose front sidelights and rears are better than the default set-up though.

It would appear to be a no, but as the EU legislation states that DRLs are required only for the fronts, I can't believe that there isn't a VAGCOM tweak which would only have the dipped beam (or sidelights) on all the time, and not the rears (which is all the EU regs require).

If there is no alternative, i'll be doing the 0% main beam method to run on LED side lights as DRLs, with full auto light functionality.

The fact there is any discussion around this always worries me and i expect to see the topic of front fog lights popping up and how to run them without side lights....

Which scares me as it makes anger boil inside!!!!

I do know DRL are different though, so am calmer now :)
