How do you remove the Dipstick?

Post by Joloke »

Just gone to check my Oil for the First time on the Roc (140/2.0 TDI) but the dipstick wouldnt pull out :(
When i say wouldnt im not saying it wont i just dont want to force it

On my Old golf it just pulled out on this theres like 2 little barbs either side, ive tried turning it as it looks a little like theres a thread below but it wouldnt turn :shake:

Ive looked in the handbook and it says nothing about any special proceedure to remove it :shake:

Anybody know how i withdraw the dipstick?

do i just pull it with some force?

Dont want to force it incase i snap those little barbs off :(

Help!!!!

Jodie :)

Hello Joloke,

The dipstick should not take too much force to remove it. I am assuming the dipstick is identical in design on the diesel as it is to the petrol versions. Don't twist it, just give it a firm pull, twisting could break those lugs or barbs you refer to.

Don't be afraid to give it a good tug if it does seem to be stuck, but yes, it should not require too much force to remove it.

Should always check the oil physically and not rely on instruments to warn of low pressure etc, :eyepop: that is asking for trouble. Once car has got a few 1000 under its belt, it may not need topping up between services, but from new it is essential the level is checked regularly.
