Now the crazy part... If I do part ways with it I may buy a Clio 182 :/ fairly cheap, fun and still quite quick. Trouble is it's French and well... I know it won't be the same. Tough

Am I crazy?
Had my Scirocco two years now. Just shy of 12500 miles. I love it to bits but don't think I love it enough to keep it as strange as that sounds. Some weeks it's in the garage at home as I don't need to use it as I have a work van which usually blocks it in so I just use that for popping out. I got a settlement quote from my finance co and I could sell it, pay the finance and have quite a bit left over. It just seems a waste having it as it has done 4k miles in a year and I think I would rather have the money each month.

Re: Am I crazy?
Only you can decide that, mine doesn't get used much but I couldn't face not having it, as my name suggests I have had a 182 (many years ago so I really should change my name) and it is a very capable car, but they are quite basic inside and a little flimsy to say the least.

I think its natural to get to point of being tempted into cash in your chips, but you will miss the Roc and realise how special it was when its gone.
Most other cars seem to feel plain inside with "tall" side windows etc, and even if fun - the clio wont have the looks, build quality, prescence etc.
As ppl have said before it's up to you, but reckon it might not be long before you're longing for a replacement if you trade down...

Yeah, trading a car in is a funny thing. I went from a 3.4 litre Boxster to my 'Roc and there are still days when I regret trading 'down'. That said the 'Roc is cheaper, still quick and lots of fun...but it's not a Porsche and I'm now considering cashing my chips in on the Roc later this year and getting back into a Porsche or even an AM V8.
That said, I also considered a life in France a while ago, and the first decision I reached (aside from living in the country and drinking lots of red wine) was that I'd want a Clio 182 as my cross-country companion en Francais, so I can certainly see the appeal of a proper old-school pocket rocket...

Re: Am I crazy?
tough call as clios have always been great fun and a far better drivers car than the roc

Re: Am I crazy?

Using this instead, few cheeky parts fitted that i had lying about, Coilovers, Eibach ARB's, Jetex Stainless Exhaust, 280mm Brakes, superb fun

Paintwork isn't amazin, polished up ok, but means you can drive it in the winter and not care about stone chips or smahing itwigit wrote:That mk2 looks absolutely spot on and under stated
Its 100% solid though which is the main thing. It'l get some more work comes the summer, might strip it, cage it, turbo it and track it or something.
Actually bought 2 in a week, the Silver one is curently bare shelled in the garage though

Re: Am I crazy?
These look really nice.
My daughter had one of them a few years ago and it saved her life. She was going round a roundabout and someone went into the passenger side at quite a speed. Obviously she stopped and got out and found that the whole of the front of the car that went into her was demolished. She ended driving home with the passenger side door caved in but the other car had to be put on a lorry to take away - by the way the other car was a modern day mini. We got her car fixed and she continued to drive it around for a few more years.

says it all, whe's the last time you spotted a 20 year old clio on the roads as a usable dailyAndy-GTI wrote:Paintwork isn't amazin, polished up ok, but means you can drive it in the winter and not care about stone chips or smahing itwigit wrote:That mk2 looks absolutely spot on and under stated![]()

Same here, traded 'down' to the Roc from a 57 Cayman S, stunning car, great to drive, but it and my back did not get on, nor was it strictly an everyday car, in the same vein as the Roc, so I needed 2 cars, and the Porker hardly got driven.Actus Reus wrote:Yeah, trading a car in is a funny thing. I do miss it at times, but not enough to live with a duff back, after an hour of driving.
As said, only you have the answer, The Clit is a very capable car, and build quality is ok. Quite a few guys are leasing from Renault, ragging the guts out of it, and sweeping back the remains to Renault after 2 years.

Renault must be selling loads of those tho allowing people to rag it galore and then hand it back for another one after 2 years.
