Another Bulging Dunlop - Replacement Reccommendations?

Post by maisbitt »

Hit a pothole that appeared small but was very deep around the Wideopen area of Newcastle yesterday. Instant tyre wall bulge on my 1/2 worn front near side Dunlop SP01.

I'm wanting a replacement obviously, but not wanting to put any more money into Dunlop's pockets. Although I can't blame the tyre this time, i've had 2 previous bulgers with no big impacts.

Looking to put the rear nearside tyre on the front and buy 2 mid range tyres for the rear, keeping the undamaged rear Dunlop as a spare.

Any recommendations on tyres that shouldn't be costing more than about £100 each?

Have looked as Falken 452s and Kumho Ecsta KU39. Both are 235/40 R18 Y 95 - same as the Dunlops. What are these 2 like for grip and wear? Never been overly impressed with the Dunlops. Any other tyres to look into, best suppliers for price etc?

Had 2 uniroyal rainsport 2's fitted recently and am quite impressed so far. In terms of price best was camskill.com but stock wasn't available when i needed it. Second best shockingly was quick fit but only as an online order.

Had Kumho KU31 on a Passat in the past and couldn't fault them. Decent grip in wet, better than I find the Dunlops on the Scirocco give. Colleague at work had them on this A4 S-line and got 20,000 miles out of the fronts and he's quite hard on tyres.

check out this website http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it has a fairly comprehensive review of the tyres on the market.
