oooh this is embarrasing but go on laugh it up

Post by JG400 »

Ok so I took delivery of my support vehicle from VW today (via europe car) and I got a VW Passat 2.0 TDI estate , brand new but with no manual , any ways I am sat on my steep drive and realised I had no idea how to take the handbrake off !!! eventually spotted the button to the right of the steering wheel which was lit up 'PARK' and figured out (after nearlly rolling into the garage ) that you seem to have to press this when the clutch was 'biting' in order to reverse back up the drive.

Is this correct ? feels very strange , I did notice a button on the console near the gear stick that said autohold on it , is that anything to do with hill hold, its very difficult when there is no manual to read.

I know I am in danger of turning this into a Passat discussion but I am wondering if it is the same in the Scirocco as well

hi
I had a passat sport B6 very nice !!! the electronic handbrake is dead simple to use !!!
For it to work
Make sure doors are shut ,
Make sure seat belt is on ,
then put it in gear and drive off !! u may need a little more throttle !!
the car's handbrake electronic will come off automatically ,
if ur seat belt or door is open the car WILL NOT let off the brakes, in which case cover ur brake pedal (foot on the brakes) and push the park buttom

I spent half an hour in an Avensis hire car trying to figure out how to switch on the engine, turned out the brake had to be depressed!!

Its a manual centre handle affair as usual on the Scirocco.

In addition though you get hill hold which holds the brakes for about 2 seconds while you footsie around getting started. This doesn't use the handbrake. Just have to keep your foot on the footbrake, release foot brake and it holds for 2 seconds while you get the power on and clutch released if manual. DSG also with its automatic clutches. Only works on an upcline. Flat/Nose down the brakes just release.

Thx for the info mick , now I am used to it I actually quite like the electronic hand brake, now if only I could figure out..

How I have managed to set the doors so that only the drivers door unlocks when I open it
Why the drivers info panel says 'Speed Warning ---mph' on one of the info screens
How I open the fuel flap

Never thought I would miss a car manual so much :)

You depress the fuel cap at about 9 o'clock - there is no button inside the car like in all other VWs I've been in. That took me a while to figure out on a forecourt...especially since the dealer forgot to supply my manual!

Are you talking about the Scirocco or Passat - JG400s questions are, I assume, still about the Passat current driving.

From our Passats that we've had, and still have in the form of a CC:
Doors - that's the default behaviour, always have to press unlock twice to unlock all doors.
Speed warning - you can set this using the MFD buttons so that the car bings if you go above the speed, not sure I've ever found that useful.
Fuel cap - there should be a button on the lower part of the driver door.

When I had my 106 XSi I was given a 106 XN as a courtesy car once. I came up to a roundabout and took it like I normally would in my gokart like XSi. Sadly the XN doesn't have bolstered seats and I nearly slid out the seat on to the handbrake!

i had a similar issue with where the handbrake button was on Revos S4 at Brunters, embaressing given big bossman from Revo had chucked me the keys to have a spin around the track, once off right foot planted and 160mph hit
