Hi Guys,
I've posted on here a few times since ordering a R DSG in June 2010 and I have been growing more impatient as my confirmed build date of W1 2011 approaches. To cope with this subliminal stress I've been fumbling about online and have seen several Golf R's for sale...likely demos and I've been wondering if a Golf R would be a better buy that a Scirocco R but I still have no idea.
Can some kind person enlighten me? How do they compare, does the 4motion actually make a massive difference in snow or ice and are there conditions that would challenge the 4motion R? (btw I have never driven a 4motion car)
I test drove a manual Golf R and wasn't very impressed. Infact, I preferred the GTI DSG, but I've put this down to the DSG box and not the engine which I couldn't explore anyway as I had a salesman pipping VW jargon to me.
Cheers folks....I only hope that this forum can distract me until Santa arrives, after which waiting on my Scirocco R will be as quick as buying a used Golf R.
Happy days...keep er lit....vrooooooommmmmmmmm :-)

I quite liked the golf R but I did not get one due to the fact they cost more than the rococo (or did when I was looking), they are going to be changing the shape soon and it's quite heavy, still a good car though, that said the only regret is not having 4x4 for the snow but that's the only one TBH, best thing is to go and test drive one

Re: How will a Golf R compare to a Scirocco R?
I've test driven a few ex-demo's when I was considering cancelling my order.. my basic thoughts are standard Golf R suspension rides better and feels more grippy than Golf R ACC suspension in normal, both feel somehow less connected to road than a rocco. This may be a result of computer controlled awd system shifting power about to maximise grip, somehow the feedback feels artificial. DSG acceleration feels less rapid than a rocco. I'd level similar complaints about lack of feel at the Audi S3 as well. Undoubtedly these are technically superior cars but for 30k+ I'd expect more enjoyment.
Can't comment of snow or rain as the roads where dry.

Re: How will a Golf R compare to a Scirocco R?
For me it came down to a few things:
1) Price - I can't justify spending £35k on a Golf, no matter what engine it has, thats BMW, Porsche, MErc Money.....
2) Looks - there are plenty more golfs around than Rocs, and they don't get quite the same looks and admiration from passers by.
3) XDS - The Roc R has XDS instead of 4Motion which is not as good but still does a good a job according to most reviews i've read.
I have had my R for about 2 months and I love it, it does handle well in the (very slight) snow only when i use about 40 bhp

Re: How will a Golf R compare to a Scirocco R?
Cant compare the Rocco R to the Golf R but I did have a MKV R32 b4 I got the Rocco R. The Golf is better at putting the power down , the rocco sometimes struggles a little on uneven surfaces or wet/greasy roads, with the Golf you dont have to think how much throttle to give it cause it will take it all when you like. However the Rocco can be more fun to drive, its far more chuckable and nimble. + in real world driving the rocco R leaves the Golf R for dust @ 40mph and up
The R32 never felt as "mental" as the Rocco R and my gues is that the Golf R in standard tune doesnt either
All that said my next Car will be 4wd again as I would like to step up in power again and at 300 bhp + I think 4wd is the way forward
