Second thoughts

We have plenty of threads stating how great the Scirocco is, but are there any people who havent enjoyed the experience as much or are like me the novelty has worn off and you are starting to look at other options?

I've been using an R32 on a regular basis and my only gripe is I want AWD and I miss NA over turbo but I love my Rocco for very differenet reasons

I felt I had to tick the first option, mainly because I am looking to keep this car for around 5 years and I wouldnt think I would change before then. Its the best car I have owned though but then I am only 22 so have not had the chance to own many really.

Good Call I am pretty spoilt for car ownership and my brother and I share cars, I'm not jumping ship just yet but I certainly have a couple of options on the table, I guess because of the credit situation there are a lot of cars coming up that I just wouldnt have considered before,

Not sure who reset and changed the poll but the problem with the R20T option is that it is hearsay, nothing official has been announced and with the current financial climate I think we'll have a long wait ahead Also I think that would be covered under you'll replace it if something better comes along

sorry CTRNutter i've added the one factor that would make me sell mine by choice the R20T and mucked up the votes

whilst i love the engine and its extra power in our golf after a few days using i was glad to get back in the scirocco, in a world of doom and gloom its just great to get behind the wheel and forget about all the sh#te, it does feel special depsite the dash, its not to showy (in the sense of look at my wad) and good value, yes its not the complete package given its practicalities but i knew that

I completely understand where you are coming from, just wish it had the engine and drive train of the R32 but VW have made it pretty clear we'll never see a small car with the ol 3.2 V6 for the foreseeable future. Thanks to the tax man

I want to keep my car for as long as possible (hate having a car without a warranty) so after 3 years I would probably get the Scirocco again if nothing better was around (hoping they face lift the dash by then), however if an R20T or 4WD was to suddenly pop along or the concept roadster makes an appearance then I'd be tempted to trade it in (funds willing)

I'm not going to sell/trade this car if the residuals are bad, in such event then I'd keep it around 5 years or the first failure out with the warranty (whichever one comes first).

Sounds like I have it all planned but once the novelty wears off you can take a serious look on the future, I know people whom have yet to receive their cars are thinking WHAT? I'm going to keep this for a very long time, all I am saying is at the end of the day who really wants to keep a car when it is replaced by a newer model? unless the newer model is worse!

Great feeback so far guys, I'm begining to think I'm not completely insane,

Part of the attraction the Scirocco has at the moment is its quite an exclusive club, but with more an more demos popping up the price lowering and amazing deals to be had on an already reasonably priced car, I'm not sure how much longer the rarity is going to last. Look at the BMW Mini as an example

A lot of car manafcturers are offering extended warranty as long as your car has a main dealer service history

CTRNutter there are some great bargains out there, trouble is they are coming out of their warranty periods and you need deep pockets to insure, maintain, shod, tax and will consume unleaded at rates similar to oliver read did booze, trouble is i think pockets will end up being even deeper and not a practical option for me

For Sure, I admitedly didnt look too closely at the cars I put up as examples, but if you buy a car through a dealer they do offer extended warranty also cars like the RS4 are pretty solid cars, yes they are juicy but fuel prices have dropped (for now). I personally only use my car at the weekends as I work in London during the week.

I always play about with what ifs, I'll probably just end up keeping the Scirocco, but crikey there really are some tempting cars coming up for silly money

Well i have to keep mine for 3 years as its a lease vehicle, but to be honest there was nothing else i fancied at the time, only the C30 T5 got a look in, there was also talk of a Lancer sportback with a decent engine in it, but its yet to appear, and its by no means a beauty. Im just not a fan of Audis, and couldnt bring myself to own a BMW ( and live my life on the fast lane right up someones chuff ) as they seem to do. One of our mechanical fitters owns an SL55 AMG god knows how he paid for it, its a beauty.

I chose those cars off the top my head and grabbed them off the pistonheads classified section, Ignoring those cars what I mean is you can pick up a car that 3 years ago could have cost anywhere from 60 to 80k new for about 25k now! Thats a hell of a lot of car for not many pennies by comparison

Its a buyers market at the moment, and as the novelty wears off there are a lot of tatsy cars out there to tempt you away

No 2nd thoughts at all. I am absolutely stoked with the Scirocco. Cars don't normally last long in my hands unless there is something about them to make me want to keep them. I have had:

Mk4 Fiesta Finesse 1.3 (lasted 8 weeks before dying horribly)

MK5 Fiesta 1.25 (lasted 6 months before being written off by another driver who smashed into me when I was stopped at a red light)

MK1 Focus ST (lasted 2 months, god awful car. Bag of bolts is an understatement)

MK2 Focus ST (lasted 4 months, rattle city, steering issues, spent half it's time in the dealership being fixed)

Seat Leon (MK2) FR TDI (lasted 18 months, bloody great car, tons of toys but didn't do the mileage to warrant the diesel and so missed petrol)

Audi MK2 TT Coupe 2.0T DSG (car I lusted after for years, unfortunately lasted 4 months, terrible car. Rattles, steering knock, parts falling off, repeated visits to Audi yielded no response. Spent 22k on a 07 plate to be told it's last year of warranty wouldn't repair most things!! WHAT?!)

The Scirocco has won me over with it's styling, it's excellent build quality, it's handling, flexibility and it's grunt when it has it. Plan to keep this one for a good 2-3 years (till almost end of warranty). We have a winner

For me, ive had various other makes, and they were nothing special, but my mk5 GTI won me over, and i was always happy to get back into it after being in something else, and by all accounts the scirocco is even better, i may be developing a loyalty to VW, apart from some boring cars in their line up, there are gems, and honestly for me nothing else in that price range can touch it.
