New to the bewildering world of detailing, was wondering for shine and water/sap repellant properties what is stopping me applying wax over the glass as per body work?
does anyone here do this?

Yes you can wax the windows, but i wouldnt recommend doing the windscreen, it can lead to smearing when using the wipers, Side and rear are generally ok.

ummmmmmmmm i'm not too sure what to say
wax is applied and then buffed off to leave a very thin layer that acts as a protection and gives a shine to the paint, the water run off is purely a benefit & result of the wax properties. on glass you don't need that protective layer & tbh imo if you did apply it i'm not sure you would be able to buff it to a finish you could see out of, so you would be applying something that would do no benefit & removing it completely (wasting product). Also a waxy surface would do your windscreen wipers absolutely no good when you did need to use them.
to get a shine on glass you would use a dedicated glass cleaner/polish (or you could use newspaper and vinegar) which will remove any leftover water spots etc then buff to a shine & to get the water repelling requirement you need to look at RainX/RainScreen/RainAway type products which seal the windows and encourage water dispersion through aerodynamics and airflow past the car (although you do still need to use windscreen wipers at low speeds due to the low airflow)

eta: can pretty much say I have never heard of anyone waxing windows before Andy but hey at least you concur with not on the windscreen

Just waxed mine except the windscreen as I always do, Rain-X on the winscreen.
